My very first job was for the Albuquerque Journal in New Mexico. I was around 11 yrs old and got a job selling magazine subscriptions door-to-door with other kids.
I forget how much they paid me but I do remember using my first check to buy some new gear for my freestyle bike :D A friend of mine used his first check to buy a Playboy mag from another kid in school, LOL

The first time I really earned some money I did that on my own.
I was about 7 or 8 (don't remember right now). We were camping with the family at Lake Morat (Switzerland) and all day long I was collecting empty glass bottles from the beach and bringing them back to collect the deposit money.
I spent that money on buying hot dogs and eating them.

I guess I was about 12 years old. I spent an entire winter shoveling driveways in my neighbourhood, and then cutting lawns the following summer so that I could buy myself a mini-bike. My parents told me if I saved half the money, they would put up the other half.
I got a custom mini-bike, pull start engine, and it went about 30 mph at full speed.
I wish I had a picture of that thing...

Some of my friends on my street started a paper route and asked me if I wanted to be in on it. I said 'no way'. I wasn't going to get up that early!

I was 14, and worked at the local library. I am sure I spent my first check on clothes and the latest Monkees or Beatles album.
Yes. I am old.

I did a lot of babysitting as a kid. I had a lot of fun. I took care of kids that had down syndrome, learning disabilities, and just regular kids.
I spent the money at movie theaters, roller skating rinks, and dances.
When I was 16 and actually earned a paycheck, I spent one summer working in a hell hole of a factory. I hated it. It was a good experience though. When high school started back up in the fall, I stayed more focused on keeping my grades up. No way was I going to graduate in a couple of years and go back to working a crappy job.
