View Full Version : Paid to post on message boards?

This seems to be creeping up all over the place.

First you have some boards out there who pay their registered users to post. Obviously this is done to keep their boards busy with posts, new threads, and also keep their boardtracker and alexa rankings up.

Failing that (or even coupled with that) you have others who actually outsource to companies to bring people to post to their boards, which is absolutely ridiculous!

Imagine using a service to bring 2 or 3 people to your board for the sole purpose of posting/bumping threads. The hired people aren't contributing ANYTHING to the board except numbers. SCREW that. This is something I would never, ever do.

What do you guys think about this??

I agree EC. People being paid to post comprimises the integrity of the post content.

Never heard about the outsourcing. Having a pay per post system has both pros and cons to it..

So both good and bad sides to such a system..

Hey EC speaking of being paid to post on message boards, I didn't receive my bi-weekly cheque last week. :p

someone had to do it.

EC,

Being paid to post is a surefire way of reducing the quality of a board to nothing. I'm glad that you do not plan on implementing this in the future. Most of the regulars here are here to share ideas and knowledge, sometimes to get feedback, and to make and keep contacts in the industry we are all a part of. If we have a ton of surfers and/or trash posts every week, those of us trying to do business or share knowledge would "jump ship" before long. I'm not pointing any fingers, but there are several boards that aren't worth my time any more. I'm glad XNations is here, filling the niche we are in. :xhappy:

So both good and bad sides to such a system.. Honestly I don't see any pros to it whatsoever. It only encourages post whoring, which I admit is occasionally amusing (when it's done for fun, and not personal profit) but it doesn't really add to the quality of a board.

Sponsors are not fooled by this anymore either. They've wasted too much of their marketing budgets over the years. And the ones who do get fooled... "don't get fooled again"... (hehe... The Who)

Chris,
Personally it is like a big slap in the face.
I am totally against boards that are paid to post based, even the first hint of being asked to post, I would turn my views on what matters the most.

come on guys, its a good idea. Seriously. Just look at the high quality posting on that other board. I wont say any names but something always smells fishy.

Seriously though. It is a good way to run up the advertisers bills.

i agree with you Chris and others!
getting paid to post is just ridiculous cause sometimes the posts are nonsense but some people make money from that alone.

Boards paying people to post... Are these people even industry people posting or just some schmoo...

I agree EC, bad idea! Go Xnations and EC for having some solid standing professional ideals!

I do get frustrated when I see people posting things like "Haha.. you guys are fun" or posting to a question thread with something like "I don't know" or "Good question".

Post whoring is what makes someboards suck.. there's so much that you can't even find the posts you'd need to read.

So thanks, EC... glad this place won't be like that. Ever.
