By definition, fear is...

A feeling of agitation and anxiety caused by the presence or imminence of danger.

Therefore, the opposite would be absence of agitation and anxiety caused by the presence or imminence of danger.

So what do you think is opposite of fear? Security, knowledge, love?

Wouldn't courage or bravery be the opposite of fear?

as AMP stated on another board, the opposite of fear is indifference.

Made sense.

AcidMax,

Indifference is the opposite of any strong emotion - AMP is right :) Hate, Love, fear - the opposite to all is indifference - just not caring :)

Courage and Bravery wouldn't be the opposite of fear, as most everyone that's being "brave" or "couragous" is scared shitliess. :-) Courage is fear in action.

And though I may not know what the opposite of fear is--I DO know what it's closest relative is...

Anger. :D

So, if you're ever in a situation where you're scared out of your mind, get pissed instead!! It'll help with your fight/flight response. :D

Huggs!!!

Getting angry instead of being afraid doesn't make it the opposite.
I could get happy instead... wouldn't affect much.

I'd be inclined to think that indifference does make sense.... although, at the same time... well, saying "I'm afraid" and "I don't care" really doesn't seem like it's the opposite, but pretty damn close.

Pretty much the only thing opposite to fear, is to not fear.

Either something scares you, or it doesn't... doesn't mean you're indifferent to it, or angry, or courageous... it just... doesn't scare you.

There is no opposite... it, in itself is the opposite. To fear, and to not fear. That's pretty much all there is.

I don't fear Evil Chris (although I should), but that doesn't mean that I love him, or anything else... indifferent, happy, angry... nothing... I just... don't fear him.

The opposite of fear is desire of course. If you are fear something you don't want it to happen, whatever it may be. If you desire something it's just the opposite: you eagerly anticipate it happening. Desire shall conquer all! :D

The opposite of fear is insanity or disorder of the mind.
Fear is natural, instinct, all normal people possess it. Fear may be expressed in different forms - LadyS has specified one of them - but, mostly fear is for saving our life.
