Hello Everyone,

As some of you make know, i started a web site that sells XXX DVDs. To be honest, i didnt plan as a should have.

The more i research the adult field, the more i find that the porn watcher population is using the internet as a means to gain access to thousands of images, videos, and whatever you may have it.

My research steams from age groups, demographics and the rise of communication technology.

As i went to my DVD wholesaler, i over heard a conversation. The wholesaler and an owner of an adult video shop were telling each other about how business was. From what i heard, business is not good. They also explained the rise of internet porn and pirating satellite signals as being major factors.

I recall a conversation that Hungryman and myself had a while back about downloading a full length feature film using a P2P site (kazaa.com). We both discussed the factors of someone willing to wait for a download to be complete as well, the type of quality that some downloads have. To be honest, ive found (through research) that the majority of the porn watching population (ages 18 - 30) don't care.

So, my question is, do you think adult home video are going exstint? Why would someone want just 1 DVD when they have the entire porn industry at the click of a mouse?.

I would love to hear other people's thoughts!

Thanks!

Well, I would think that all ya need is data on how many people own DVD players vs people with broadband internet access.

:D

That's what i thought!!

But, pornography is a whole catagory to itself. Yes, it is entertainment but a type that is obviously unique.

When doing more planning and research (something that ive should have before i started) i found that no matter how many people own DVD players, if they can get this type of entertainment (porn) for free, then let the party being!! regardless of internet speed

Yes, their are actual "hardcore" porn viewers who i get calls from asking me what porn stars are acting in what film and what are they wearing. Those are the few who actually want the DVD box covers to add to their collection of videos.

I found that different things affect the market, for example, when it was the World Cup Soccer Championship, my DVD sales were down. When the championships were over, my sales went back to normal.

Porn DVD sales are odd!. I should switch to XXX toys! :)

You make some great points, but I think some of the major players in the online DVD world would beg to differ. DVD's are surpassing the video market by far as you know..and a great point was brought up about DVD owners and broadband subscribers. For the cost of three months hi-speed you can get a pretty good DVD player.
Selling DVD's on-line is a great service to those that don't want to go downtown and hit a videostore and there is a huge market.

One thing I found with my toy store is that porn traffic (content based) does not convert as well as targeted search engine traffic, link list traffic and targeted paid advertising.

So the guys jerking off to choppy 56K modem movies are probably not your target market.

I know you

hehehehhe ...

you make some good points Jason ... but I think Magnus made a very good one also ... the people downloading 56K feeds or using Kazaa to get a movie after 445 hours at a 0.44kbps transfer rate, are more than likely NOT your target market ...

In any business, your success comes from knowing your tqarget market, and providing them the services they desire

Why not try something totally new .... add a VOD (video-on-demand)theatre to your site ... where people can see teasers of several movies ... or even buy a block of time to watch the entire movie or parts of several thereof ... and also have your current setup linked so that the VOD users can purchase the movies they have sampled/seen if they so choose ... either way you are BLINGING off the DVD sales ... as well as the bought time blocks in the VOD theatre ...

Always try to stay one step ahead of your target market, as well as your competition ...

APRIL ... HUNNEE ...
You can step in here at any time now, and bat your eyelashes at Jason ... explain to him that you can set him up a VOD theatre in no time flat, and at no cost to him at all .... hehehhee :D

actually bro ... hit me up for a referral code ...

Hey Paul!,

Damn...you scared me!.....thought you forgot me already!! :p

I am hooked up with April's site already, the VOD thing. Its on my free page of the www.crimson.tv site.

In regards to design and proper marketing, i think im way off.

But im not sure if that is a contradiction to what im selling. I placed it on my site because im trying to give the visitor a choice of buying or "renting" (VOD). Ah well.....we'll see in the long run!

I just started a few months ago, finishing my 4th DVD...

distributors want two things it seems :
1. very consistent content and approach of each DVD
2. at least 10 titles

I have been offered contracts if I can come up with "10-15 DVDs".
Typical price they pay is $4-6 each, it cost $1-2 to produce in quantity.
That's like 200% profit. Do content buyers and leasers have that profit margin???

I know that a considerable amount of "free" and "exclusive" media I've seen on sites are DVD or video captures. Especially the "bi" category...

And I don't know why I would pay 9.99 for VOD when the store has the entire DVD for 12.99. Unless I am hiding from the store, or FedEx guy at home!

P.S. i think that going to distributors directly and talking is better than "overhearing" things.

As some of you make know, i started a web site that sells XXX DVDs. To be honest, i didnt plan as a should have.

HEQDVD: WHAT IS YOUR HOME SITE? THREEPILL***?

The more i research the adult field, the more i find that the porn watcher population is using the internet as a means to gain access to thousands of images, videos, and whatever you may have it.

HEQDVD: NOT FROM THE LEADER: JUPITER INTERNET STATS. THIS YEAR THE PROFITS ARE DOWN AND SIGNUPS AS WELL. CHARGEBACKS ARE WAY UP.
AND ACCORDING TO YNOT,
2003 WILL BE EVEN WORSE.

As I went to my DVD wholesaler (WHO?), i over heard a conversation. The wholesaler and an owner of an adult video shop were telling each other about how business was. From what i heard, business is not good. They also explained the rise of internet porn and pirating

satellite

signals as being major factors.

HEQDVD: THAT'S FUNNY, LAST MONTH SOME GUY FROM MICHIGAN CONTENT PROVIDER FOR A CANADA SITE RIPPED US OFF FOR 6 MOVIE CLIPS WITH AN BOGUS PAYPAL ACCOUNT AND EMAIL ADDRESS CALLED: "satellite" -

BUT I'M SURE ITS NOT YOU!!! :)

I recall a conversation that Hungryman and myself had a while back about downloading a full length feature film using a P2P site (kazaa.com).

HEQDVD: KAZAA IS GOING SOWN REAL SOON. ANYONE WHO COMPOSES ORIGINAL MEDIA OR MUSIC CAN RELATE TO THIS.

We both discussed the factors of someone willing to wait for a download to be complete as well, the type of quality that some downloads have. To be honest, ive found (through research) that the majority of the porn watching population (ages 18 - 30) don't care.

HEQDVD: DO YOU ACTUALLY TALK TO REAL DISTRIBUTORS?
AND YOU DON"T WAIT FOR ANYTHING WITH A STREAMING SERVER...

So, my question is, do you think adult home video are going exstint? Why would someone want just 1 DVD when they have the entire porn industry at the click of a mouse?.

HEQDV: THE ENTIRE PORN INDUSTRY? THAT SEEMS LIKE A VERY SILLY COMMENT. ONLY SITES LIKE GAMELINK OFFER SUCH A HUGE SELECTION, AND THE VOD I SAW THERE WAS SLIGHTLY ABOVE AVERAGE (not DivX that'a a whole different thread).

IF YOU USE ANOTHER'S SHOPPING CART APP, THAT YOU AREN'T "starting a web site that sells XXX DVDs"

ALSO I HAVE YET TO SEE INTERNET MPEG VIDEO THAT IS HALF AS GOOD AS A MEDIUM QUALITY PROGRESSIVE SCAN HOME PLAYER AND NORMAL TV MONITOR. THAT'S THE REAL ISSUE. REAL BROADBAND DVD QUALITY IS STILL 5 YEARS AWAYS. WEBPHONE PICS AND VID ARE VERY LOW QUALITY AND WILL BE FOR MANY YEARS>>>

I would love to hear other people's thoughts!

HEQDVD: YOU JUST DID. GO TO MY NEW PROMO SCENE HERE AND LOOK AT THE NEW REALPLAYER HELIX OPTIMIZED CLIPS:
http://heq2002.com/heqdvd/Liquid/liquid.htm

or any at the dailies (see below)

THEN LOOK AT YOUR MPEGS FROM "the entire porn industry at the click of a mouse" AND SEND MY A COMPARISON OF QUALITY. I WOULD LOVE TO SEE YOUR COMPARISON (with active URLs please!)

MERRY XMAS!!!

Thanks Paul for looking out for me!

Hey Heqdvd,

First i must say...WOW...now that is what i call a reponse!.

To answer your questions, No, i am not the guy who ripped you off. I wish to make an honest buck just like the many on this site do.

Plus i do talk to real distributors. As of now, i only deal in Hustler products since i know some people that work for them. Ive found that although i sell only Hustler/ Kickass DVDs, i still can pull in a couple sales, not as many as i want. I am acutally now looking in the near future to purchase master copies and distribute myself.

As for my "comment" about the "whole porn industry", i am comparing many TGP sites and galleries that are present on the net. Once again, the question was, "Can Triple X DVDs stand up to free porn on the net?", why would someone pay money for 1 DVD when they can view .mpeg clips and pics of all type of niche that interests them by the means for free porn sites.

I have to agree about quality in regards to porn. Some of the sites offer choppy clips that don't look good.

Now, i know im going to get shafted for saying this, but we are in the porn industry, and when "it's" up..."IT"S UP", quality for many (unless you pay for it) does not come into play when their is a visitor that has one hand on the mouse and their other hand....well....you know . We are in the industry of turning on the individual so they can whip out their credit card and sign up or (in my case) purchase a DVD. On the average, a horny dude will most likely settle for anything. If the horny dude does not find what he wants in one site, he/ she will move on until they do, avoiding the fact of becoming a paid member.

Although, many do buy porn and do sign up for memberships, ofcourse, in our field, the challenge is how to do it!

But i do understand what you are saying! Thanks for your wonderful insight!

take care and Merry Christmas!! :D

yes, yes you are right about that. I have this stupid idealism I have to get rid of.

Well Hustler has much media and sure you'll be busy. If you have some link to go to for a cheap trial, I'll check it out (not $24.99 please)

happy holidaze

Hey, thanks... the opening page looks good, young models and I like always like those duotones.

"UltraMpegs
We have the movies you want!
Over 20.000 movie clips available!

Tired of searching for movies and only getting 10 seconds clips?

Hey Greg,

Im glad you like the site. In my online DVD store, Barely Legal sells well. The teen niche is really good (obviously!......lol).

As well, the site that you mentioned is not mine. My site is www.crimson.tv I only own one site for now

Its not the best site and their is alot of changes that i will be doing.

The site offers erotic books, message board, and a free page with reviews of different pay sites. I am going to be talking to a person in the states about buying some master copies of the DVDs that she makes. Only time will tell if it is a good investment or not. I am thinking of expanding and looking at other types of companies other than Hustler...just to see what happens.

Anyways, take care and all the best!

Jason
