Need some Input

We are redesigning our program and would Love an opinion on our Crown - so far we have two separate versions, they are pasted below.

As well we have discussed a contest offering a cash price to the designer that produces a crown that is King worthy, any thoughts on this? I've seen design contests advertised on the board, have they proved successful?

I like the 2nd one...the black and white Crown...Nice and clean looking. Bit of a retro look to it:)

Roger... I would be more apt to choose the 3 pointed crown...
Your 5 pointed one looks too much like a gangland symbol of the people nation.
I dunno if you're even worried about such a thing, though...

The black and white one could make an impact as far as how memorable it is... The first in is very nice, too, though... very pro, but not memorable..

EvilChris... I live in Los Angeles, and I read through that link you posted... are people nation and folk nation equivalent to our crips and bloods? Or are they more old school... maybe hangovers from the original mobsters of the early 20th century?

Being from LA, that PeopleNation rference would totally be lost on the black and white logo... til now.. .thanks EvilChris, lol... Now, I sure as heck wouldn't use any symbols from LA gangs seeing as how I'm from here... and vice versa... I'd be curious as to others' opinions of this subject, actually... because I like the black and white logo the best, and how's one to really keep abreast on whether or not they'd be using symbols from a gang on the other side of the country or world?

The first one is kinda simple, and the second one reminds me of a FOOL..., I wouldnt want to be associated with a joker :P

Does it have to be a crown? Other items normally associated with KINGS are Gold and Wealth.. perhaps a Gold Chest half open full of cash would give a good positive feel to seeing the logo.. about makin money, and being a king.. Maybe have a small Crown on the side of the chest like if it was engraved or extruded from it.

I agree with Luke.

Crown #1 looks better than #2, but something a lil more crafty can be done with some time put into it.

I'm not really fond of either one. The first design is pretty clean but it just doesn't pop. The second one has a fancier crown with an overly simple colour scheme and it just doesn't work for me. I think I'd go for a more visually interesting crown and a colour scheme similar to the first design. I think the contests are probably just as useful for a little publicity as they are for getting an actual design.
