One of the great mortifications of my life is that my husband, normally a man of taste, actually eats Spam on purpose. Now, if we were financially drained and could only afford a "meat product" like Spam, that would make sense. If we were locked securely in the bomb shelter and all that was available was the canned "meat product," it would make sense. Both of those would be making the best of a bad situation.

But to purchase it on purpose to eat?

That makes NO sense to me.

I generally dive for the peanut butter and jelly sandwiches when he decides he's having his Spam.

I don't know what the people in Hawaii are thinking. (They eat a lot of Spam on purpose for some reason unknown to the other 49 states.)

Having lived in Alaska I can tell you Spam is a staple there as the 'meat' does not freeze even in sub-zero temperatures.

not just Hawaii, it's through out
Oceania, the peoples in the Marshall Islands
where I lived a year did like spam, (Micronesian),
and I know from a Philipino (Philipines) they like it too.

I can now think of my husband as "exotic" when he eats his Spam...which will be a very nice replacement for the other things I thought. ;)

Of course, the man is Slovak and grew up eating things that are...blech.... The worst was "slalinya," which may be misspelled, but the food product is...boiled bacon. I also ate his grandmothers "egg cheese" and could barely keep it down. Luckily, the woman sat down with a bottle of whiskey and we had "Nostroviya!" toasts until I was totally soused first.

(Apologies for the spelling to anyone who actually knows how to spell these words.)
