in the Eastern Conference.

Currently, Montreal is holding on to it for dear life. Slumping somewhat at the moment. This is probably the worst time of the season to go flat. Every remaining game for them is important now.

Will Toronto steal that last playoff spot away from them? They're only 3 points back now and they play each other twice this week.

Im certainly not convinced the Habs will make the playoff, but Im confident the Leafs will miss them ;)

Overall I'd say the Habs have a better put together team this year but even that isn't saying much.

It will be quite a fight to the end though. It may come down to goaltending.

sadly - when you have two teams that have no hope of winning the cup it's a poor mans Stanley series. Your watching out of pity as people often turn their heads in traffic when they first see an accident. Our interest is peeked but we both know they will die in the end.

Well I'm a fan of the sport too, so I'll continue to watch throughout the playoffs, but just not with the same intensity. ie.. I won't plan my schedule around the playoffs if my team isn't in it.

What's sad, is we'll be force fed the series on CBC regardless of which of those teams makes it.

Well Atlanta just took away Montreal's playoff spot with their win over the Bruins tonight and the Habs loss to the Isles.

Toronto beat Carolina! Nice surprise there. This last playoff spot is still very much up for grabs. Especially since Montreal and Toronto play each other twice in a row this week!

Any man that puts up a negative post about the leafs shall hear from me.

Good chris.... you were ok until i found out you were a habs fan.... Evil chris... as always your loyalty to the leafs is much appreciated despite the fact that you live in the enemy town.

I'll be watching the two games and the leafs better make it or there will be hell to pay

I'll be watching the two games and the leafs better make it or there will be hell to pay I had a birthday back in December, and one of my gifts was a pair of prestige seats for the Leafs/Habs game on Thursday night.

The current playoff race between these two teams will ensure the highest level of hockey... Can't wait! Go Leafs Go!

You mean the highest level of hockey that two BAD hockey teams are capable of.

Enjoy the game though.

So many negative waves around here...
Canada has some very good hockey teams this year. Granted Montreal and Toronto aren't two of them.
Ottawa and Calgary are two teams that could go all the way to the Cup this year though.
Don't discount Edmonton and Vancouver either. Stranger things have happend. Remember Montreal in 93?

The playoffs are an entirely different ball of wax.

and speaking of 1993.
If you know anything at all about the NHL, you'd know that it was some of the best playoff hockey EVER played. Consider who was still in the league at that time, all the great teams and players. Enforcers still had full time jobs... etc.

That's nostalgia for you...

The level of talent this year is incredible...

And that wasnt good hockey by the habs... it was Patrick Roy and a bunch of plumbers...

Yeah Patrick Roy scored all those overtime goals, right?
He played a significant role in the team's success that year. He did half the job.

It's too bad that players like Damphousse, Bellows, Muller, Keane etc.. tend to get forgotten in the shadow of Roy.

there's a good reason they get forgotten in the shadow...

How many of those games ended 2-1? I dont think there was one 10 goal scorer on the habs..

They were great people who worked real hard and I love them for what they did.

But saying it was objectively, without being a Habs fan, great hockey... eh.... not so much...

I tried finding 1993 stats... no cigar...

DrGuile
03-23-2006, 01:40 PM
eh, I did find it, they were two 10 goal scorers.... 11 and 10... in 20 games...

Here's the team that should have won the cup in 93
http://www.hockeydb.com/ihdb/stats/leagues/seasons/teams/0000381993.html

Toronto did 3 seven-game series in a row. The third being against Gretzky and the LA Kings. Game 7 of that series was won by a single goal.

If Toronto had won, it would have been them versus Montreal in the Stanley Cup Finals.

Too many if's there to even contemplate.

I'm pissed as well that Domi was a healthy scratch.
