When people talk about "rankings", they are usually referring to rankings on Google. Google is a huge search engine, and the majority of people who do business on the internet see a good ranking on their results pages as a license to print money. The big search engines DO spider smaller search engines, and a high rank on a smaller search engine can related directly to the relevance weighting on a listing in the larger
engines.
