Alexa Rankings. A Lot Of Fuss About Nothing? (Part 1)
We have been told time and time again that Alexa is a must use tool. After a time using other analyzing software on traffic I have come to some conclusions of my own, whether they be right or not is another question altogether ;-)
There are recognized and accepted problems with Alexa:
- In itself it does not really get much direct traffic and has a limited reach, even with the toolbar they offer.
- On any site, a relatively small change in visitor numbers can represent a huge change in the ranking for that site.
- It would seem ultimately biased - many are only tracking themselves visiting their own site.
So why do people promote Alexa as the "Be all to end all"?

Mick Jagger joins the UFO crowd.
Mick Jagger claims to have been visited by aliens several times now. He has even gone as far as to put an electromagnetic sensor in his home to alert him of when they are nearby. Mick Jagger join the ranks of Keith Richards
and John Lennon.
Mick has claimed to have seen a cigar shaped UFO while camping with a girlfriend in 1968. It was then he installed the meter to check for UFO activity in his home. He also claims to have seen a UFO during The Rolling Stones' infamous 1969 Altamont Concert in California.
John Lennon claimed that he met Aliens and they gave him an egg shape gift about a year before he was assassinated.
Im just surprised these guys were able to play a whole concert with all the drugs they must have been on...lol
Know your audience (Part 1)
I had an interesting experience lately when I put a few threads up offering to buy good escort domains. The responses were pretty wild.
(JoeBlow) : I've got DIRTYSTREETHOOKERS, PROSTITUTEHOOKERS and INDEPENDENTPROVIDERS.
While those domains may have some use for something, they're really not useful in the escort market without some serious branding. Let's look at them individually.
DIRTYSTREETHOOKERS. This sounds more to me like a reality site, something akin to Dirty D's CrackWhoreConfessions than something to do with escorts. Besides that, if you ever called an escort a "Hooker" or in any way referred
to her as "dirty", you'd probably have a fight on your hands.
PROSTITUTEHOOKERS. First, there are massive legal implications in calling an escort a "prostitute" or a "hooker". Besides that, it's not true. Escorts offer sell their time and companionship only, anything else that happens is
a spontaneous act between two consenting adults. Combining those two keywords in a domain is going to get you more traffic looking for statistics to write nasty book reports or cops looking for somebody to watch than guys
with credit cards looking for some company.
Next week, we'll look at the final domain and have a look at what works, and what doesn't
