Ford Motor Co. said Friday it would recall 3.6 million passenger cars, trucks, sport utility vehicles and vans to address concerns about a cruise control switch that has led to previous recalls based on reports of fires.

Recalls happen all the time. I think we have had 3 or 4 with our Jeep.
No big deal?

Every car company has had some big recalls at one time or another. I remember cadilac recalled the Suv because tailgate would fall off while driving down the road.

I think your wrong.

There is a very common misconception that American cars have poor quality while everything else is just "plain better".

"Results from the J.D. Power study shows how this new emphasis is paying off. That study is consumer-driven, polling nearly 100,000 buyers and lessees of new 2007 model year vehicles in the first 90 days of use.

Ford ranked highest in five of 19 segments in this year's survey by J.D. Power. That topped even Toyota, the world's No. 1 automaker.

Ford, based in Dearborn, Mich., won segment awards for the Ford Mustang, Lincoln Mark LT, Lincoln MKZ, Mercury Milan and Mazda MX-5. Ford owns a third of Mazda.

"Fourteen Ford Motor Co. models place in the top three of their respective segments -- an achievement unmatched by any other corporation this year -- which is a testament to the improvement in quality for Ford Motor Co. vehicle models and plants," said Neal Oddes, J.D. Power's director of product research and analysis. "

I've been driving nothing but Ford products since 1995, including seven Mustangs. I've had one problem to date over all; This was with my current car ( 2004 Mustang Cobra) when the wiring to the alternator failed, destroying the altenator and killing the battery. All was quickly fixed the same day and they did my 20k service for free.

But while we are bashing American cars here, let's look at Toyota's recalls this year.... For 2007 alone.....

Sequoia - Suspension issues
FJ Cruiser - Bad tries
Camry - Air Bags
Solara - Side air bags
Sequoia - Brakes

Isn't it odd how when Ford recalls cars and it's big news, but when Toyota does no one seems to notice?

End rant. (( Thanks for playing along! ))

I had a 2002 F-150 up until about 3 weeks ago, during the 5 years that I had it, the only thing I ever did to it was regular maintenace, such as oil changes etc. I'm not sure how many vehicles you can say that about.
