I'm curious to see who uses what tool or service to ping their blogs. I've always used Pingoat, but I'm looking into what else is out there.

Do you use a built in ping service?

Do you use Pingoat or something similar?

Did you write your own ping script?

I used to use Pingomatic, but it always times out on me now.

I'm trying www.pingates.com at the moment. We'll see how that one goes.

Strange... but I keep referring back to this thread to find the pingates.com URL...

So it's worth a bump. :)

Do you guys use the "update services" in Wordpress... that automatically pings a list of such services that you list?

I used to use Pingomatic but yeah after about six or eight services it just... stops.

I go with Pingoat and KPing now.

I keep the boxes for Technorati, Yahoo and Feedburner & WeBlogALot (and Blogrolling when I remember) unchecked because they ping your RSS instead of your URI, and it seems to work faster to ping them as a single xml feed check...

I bookmark the lot and stick'em in a bookmark folder, and as soon as I publish I right-click "Open as Tab Group".

Seems to work :D

Oh and I also use these guys: http://www.adultblogindex.com/add.php

and bookmark the result...

Thanks for the Pingates ref!

Do you have to Ping after each post? or once a day? or once a week?

You shouldn't have to ping, really, but it's a quick way to notify the listing service/s that your blog or feed are up to date, after you post.

If you ask for a ping, you better be updated, or sooner than later the service will label you a spammer.

You don't update, you don't ping.

Usually, these pinging services and aggregators like Technorati ping you anyway, just to check. The way these programs work is they slow down progressively if you don't update, and more often if you do.

If you don't update for a few months you're probably not getting more than a cursory ping once a week.

The more you update, the more you ping, the more you get pinged.

Yeah I tend to ping only after I've made a couple of updates to my blog.
It appears to be working.
