The following is an interview conducted by [http://www.xbiz.com]XBiz with CuriousToyBoy (http://www.curioustoyboy.com) on behlf of LionDollars (http://www.liondollars.com/_ee33dc2ffac072c1038582f2beea01fa/). The opinions expressed therein are his personal opinions and are not necessarily shared or endorsed by LionDollars. Watch for it in an upcoming [http://www.xbiz.com]XBiz Magazine or online.

[http://www.xbiz.com]XBiz: How popular is cell phone/mobile erotica in the United States compared to Europe, Asia and other parts of the world?

Please discuss the reasons for this.

CuriousToyBoy (http://www.curioustoyboy.com): "Portable porn" lags behind in the USA for a couple of very simple, yet very important reasons. Network protocols and billing. If networks will not allow you to deliver it, and you cannot bill a surfer to provide it to them, why would you do it? The situation is changing, but the European market remains far and away well in advance of the USA in these terms. A key factor in this has been that Europe has had mobile networks far in advance of anything the US has seen for a long time, and in many ways the gap continues to grow. The "tyranny of distance" can be seen as one of the reasons for this - it takes far less to provide awesome 3rd generation cell phone coverage to a country the size of say Norway (for example) than it does for even a moderate sized state in the USA. The decentralization of networks and competitive factors between different providers also provides a market feature that impacts greatly on how cell driven devices are able to communicate.

[http://www.xbiz.com]XBiz: What parts of the world do you consider to be the most advanced when it comes to the use of erotica on cell phones? What steps must be taken to advance the popularity of cell-phone porn in the U.S.? What obstacles are proponents of cell-phone/mobile erotica facing in the U.S. compared to other parts of the world?

CuriousToyBoy (http://www.curioustoyboy.com): When one of the largest cell phone networks in the USA uses "We Have The Least Number Of Dropped Calls" as it's selling line, that alone provides another illustration of just how behind the USA really is in terms of service provided to the mobile end user. Smaller countries (directly translating to incredibly less infrastructure and cost), centralized ownership/management of networks, less competition and less Government and network regulation makes provision and processing of cell content a far easier process that the multi-tiered, multi-faceted, and bureaucratic laden path that greets companies in the USA.

[http://www.xbiz.com]XBiz: What parts of the United States do you think have been the most receptive to mobile/wireless erotica? Have you observed any regional trends within the United States?

CuriousToyBoy (http://www.curioustoyboy.com): Having done some far reaching hands on research it would seem the best way to describe this is unpredictable - what works in other markets does not work in ones you would think it does and vice versa. My gut feeling is again it comes down to the consumer being less educated in all things mobile in relative terms than elsewhere in the globe, a big of part of which can only be laid firmly at the feet of the service that is available.

[http://www.xbiz.com]XBiz: How much of a growth market do you consider the U.S. to be when it comes to cell phone erotica?

CuriousToyBoy (http://www.curioustoyboy.com): Like with online porn, if delivery and billing and technical issues can be overcome, the USA will be the World's largest mobile porn market. Eventually. But there are some very big "if's", "but's" and "maybe's" for that dream to ever reach fruition.

[http://www.xbiz.com]XBiz: If applicable, please discuss your own marketing/promotional efforts in the mobile sector in the U.S. How do they compare to your marketing/promotional efforts in Europe and other parts of the world?

CuriousToyBoy (http://www.curioustoyboy.com): Nice try, but we won't be letting the cat out of the bag on this one. LionDollars have spent a lot of time, money and resources in the mobile arena, and that area is the fastest growing and close to largest segment of our business now. This will not change, but will become more prominent as our developed skills, techniques and systems become more and more refined.

[http://www.xbiz.com]XBiz: It has been argued that cell-phone erotica has a disadvantage in the U.S. compared to Europe and elsewhere because of the "American psyche"--in other words, Americans are so into "big things" (big plasma screens, big SUVs) that seeing erotica on a small screen just doesn't appeal to them. Do you agree or disagree? Please explain why.

CuriousToyBoy (http://www.curioustoyboy.com): I have discussed earlier my thoughts that the lack of "mobile education" in the USA is directly related to the lesser usage defined by lack of service of overall. If the networks could provide a service in like levels as is available in many European, Asian and Pacific Rim markets, this fundamental issue would change in it's entirety.

[http://www.xbiz.com]XBiz: It has also been argued that cell-phone erotica has a disadvantage in the U.S. because the U.S., on the whole, is less of a "pedestrian/sidewalk culture" than Europe--that is, many Europeans use mass transit instead of driving and therefore, are more likely to have their hands on a cell phone than a steering wheel. Do you consider that an accurate or fallacious argument? Please explain.

CuriousToyBoy (http://www.curioustoyboy.com): That's a good one. A better one is that Europeans are more tech savvy, have better setup and served mobile networks, better handset and device technology and are therefore FAR more highly likely to be using 3rd generation products and services already. The USA is not yet cell educated to the point of some of the smaller affluent European nations. But beware he who wakes the sleeping giant.
