When I was a kid my dad had an 8-track of Sandy Nelson one of the best rock drummers. I don't know why I thought about this today but here's a youtube vid for those who don't know who he is.

Ah 8 track players.... We had one in the house and another one in the car.
They actually had superior sound to the cassettes that were to come.

I listened to Led Zeppelin 4 for the first time on an 8 track player.

I can remember when my parents had our first house built, we had a stereo system in the basement with speakers/intercom system in each room of the house. The stereo system had an 8 track player, record player, and radio built into it. My parents had a collection of 50's music on 8 track, so every so often, one of them would take over the stereo system and we'd hear 50's music for a little while that day. There were controls on the system and individual speakers so you could turn a random speaker off, but I never bothered when the 50's music played.

I remember my folks having eight track in the car. We used to listen to the beach boys. But man, those eight track tapes were fucking huge.

By the time I got my first car, eight track was gone and we all used cassette.

It's really not fair to make a lady show her age.....

Growing up we had one in our RV, and my stereo in my room had one. I had a big old box of 8 tracks, but the one I remember the most was Aerosmith's Toys in the attic. I don't know what ever happened to my collection, but I'm betting one day they could be worth something, if nothing more than nostalgic reasons.

My parents had a huge 8 track collection and a big ol' hi fi stereo that they played them in.
The sound was really good on them.

Yeah I remember listening to an AC/DC - Back In Black 8-track and the bass was super thick yet you still got the high's then I heard a cassette of it on the same system and it was thin and tinny. Had to crank up the bass on it.

That's the one thing I remember about them. They usually sounded way better than cassettes.

I remember having one in our house when I was like 5-6 years old. My dad was more into records and jumped to cassettes, never had a big 8 track collection.
