'The iPhone's Next Frontier: Porn

Apple may be golden because of the iPhone, but the soon-to-be-updated device is also increasingly the source of forbidden fruit. Steve Jobs' company is keeping a civil, if embarrassed, silence on one of the potentially most lucrative and controversial uses of its handheld jewel: porn.
The technological feats of the 3G iPhone are key to the coming pornucopia. To date, mobile porn has consisted largely of still images, racy text services and "moan tones," which are sultry-sounding ringtones. In Europe there is an active market for video chatting; customers pay on average $50 a month to exchange dirty messages with actresses. But now, thanks in large part to the iPhone's video dexterity, short clips are becoming a staple of the mobile porn business. The speed promised by the iPhone 2.0 is much anticipated.
Google Trends, which measures Web buzz, shows a sharp increase over the past year in the popularity of the term "iPhone porn." ' * Source http://www.time.com/time/business/article/0,8599,1815933,00.html

'Vivid, a leading adult entertainment company based in Los Angeles, says that 50% of its mobile browser traffic now comes from iPhones. The company expects that to grow with the release of Apple's new model on July 11. Vivid CEO Steve Hirsch told TIME that his company will launch what it calls a "supersite" this summer to capitalize on the new iPhone. Vivid is investing hundreds of thousands of dollars in the new supersite, Hirsch says.

Penthouse is investing tens of millions in digital R&D, says its CEO, Marc Bell. "The iPhone is a beautiful medium," Bell says. The company, which Bell says partners with 60 carriers in 30 countries, now owns an array of social networks under the "Friendfinder" banner. It plans a new portal pegged to the iPhone launch and new offerings that Bell boasts are unlike anything on the market. "We're planning a whole new level of interactivity," says Bell.

Digital Playground, a high-end adult production company based in Van Nuys, California, is launching a new portal that will automatically adjust to the iPhone's browser. The company, which has partnerships with phone networks in 48 countries, according to founder Ali Joone, already takes in about $50 million in revenue annually. Joone says he is editing some videos to include more close-ups to suit the iPhone screen. "In your palm, the iPhone is more cinematic than other devices," Joone says.

Pink Visual, also based in Van Nuys, will likewise launch a new portal aimed at the 3G iPhone this summer. The company's first iPhone site has been attracting 3,000 new visitors a day. It was designed specifically for Apple's device: the videos are re-sized to fit its horizontal screen when the device is turned sideways. An icon can be downloaded to an iPhone's home screen, says spokesperson Kate Sylvan, enabling one-click access to porn clips on the phone. In order not to offend Apple's sensibilities, Sylvan says, Pink Visual plans to avoid linking its new marketing campaign to Apple's own ads for the iPhone. Sylvan says many porn consumers access adult materials on their iPhones while traveling, because they're wary of using company-issued laptops or public computers to access adult entertainment. So with all these companies and many more offering high quality iPhone Porn entertainment, which really is the best one to spend your cash? I have found several sites which rate these new iPhone providers. I'd like to see more people involved in actually rating their content and quality, my site http://www.iphone-iporn.com has a good comparison rating system and offers several good quality free clips and sample links to the main competitors.

What's your view on iPhone Adult Entertainment?
Do you think it is the next big business for mobile porn?
How do you rate the providers available at the moment?
Is the any area of iporn entertainment you would like to see more of on these devices?

We actually have three mobile sites now. In addition to iPinkVisualPass we have iMaleSpectrumPass and iPornoPass. And the iPhone isn't the only device that mobile format adult content will work well on. Samsung has a comparable device that I think might already be on the market, and the PSP plays MP4 format quite nicely. Sadly, everything looks a bit funny on the Blackberry Storm=(

I have an iPhone, and yes some hardcore clips on it too.
So I'd agree there's definitely an emerging market for this kind of thing.

Um, no. The first soft core porn I ever saw was a movie called "And God created women". Very little porn, but I was busy trying to marry a bi-sexual stripper back then. No time for porn when your busy having threesomes.

Does mobile porn really sell?

It is understandable why he keeps silent. I think all of us can agree that it's hard to come out with pornographic businesses to the mainstream people.

Too right, I think that's a very good point. Personally, my family know I'm a webmaster not an 'Adult' webmaster... I have a web dev business as well and I HAVE to keep it entirely seperate, I did start off keeping everything together, adult web development and standard development but then found my associates on the normal stuff didn't want to be associated with the adult stuff, and I was worried I might have scared off potential clients... Odd really, that so many people are scared of the adult market..

mobile content will grow substantially across the board in coming years. iPhone offers the best viewing device hands down. My girl had a storm and viewing web pages on most black berries kinda stinks. I have an LG dare as well, bites ass viewing sites. and they are all verizon branded, dang browser there!

HTC Touch Pro 2 with Opera is damn cool. Rather have one of those any day over iPhone to be honest...

I just find it so hard to believe that people get off looking at a little picture on a little cell phone.

I've purchased movies for my Ipod and watched them on plane flights, and frankly it sort of sucked. I mean, it worked, but what's the point of watching a video that's only two inches wide?
