View Full Version : Is the recession over? Did it affect you?

I'm coming off probably two of the worst financial years I've seen in my adult life. Likely comparable to 1980/81 when a lot of people lost their homes.

I'm not even sure if it's getting better. The media says it is, but is it really?

How has it all affected you?

One thing I will say about any recession is this, it does have it's benefits. When money is abundant and flowing everywhere, easy to come by etc... it lowers and effects the overall quality of products and services in many industries, it creates TONS of room for scammers and not just in online porn, but EVERY industry both on and offline. When there is an economic crunch such as what we have all faced recently I think it is a good thing because it helps to weed out freeloaders, people with little to no talent who just want to benefit from certain aspects of marketing, scammers, etc... Now, don't get me wrong, I don't wish for anyone to suffer when it comes to finances, I'm just saying in times like these you find out who has a good work ethic and who doesn't, those who are true gurus, hard and honest workers, inovators etc... and those who just want a quick easy buck. When money is not so easy to come by it forces people either to work harder and smarter and produce better quality products/services, or people such as for example in this industry just tend to vanish because they realize people are not so easily fooled as they once were and it really is about quality and being honest with your customer(s), and not quantity and being deceitful.

sales shot up last month. Ratios are a lot better.

Did it affect me? Sure did. But I'm living, still own my house; In fact, houses are so cheap that I bought a condo up the street I rent out to my friend. As soon as I can afford another I'll buy another one.

I'm not sure if I completely agree with born2blog's assessment, but I do understand the point he's trying to make.

I'm finding that in these times, it's important to ease up on your own personal overhead, so to speak. That is to say, not as many "treats". It sucks to have to suck it up!

I certainly hope we are headed out the backend of the recession. People thought I was nuts trying to start my own thing during tough financial times.

I am looking forward to 2010. Professionally it will say much about where I am heading and how I am getting there.

For me - let's just say the faster I can get out of 2009 and move on with life the better.

I did think 2008 was bad but 2009 was definitely worse.
Things can only look up from here.

One thing can can improve right fucking now is the currency exchange rate!!

For me it's not as much as recession is on or off - what I find is that human's tend to adapt to most situations, so when things get tough - people become more creative in finding what they need. Some start a home business while others rob banks LOL

At least gas isn't $4 a gallon anymore.

Well it hurt a bit....I can really feel the change in the economy. Malls are more quiet, gas prices are out of control...!

The increases could not come at a worse time for the economy. With that being said Mercedes-Benz Canada has had it's consecutive 2 months records in sales. So somewhere someone has extra money floating around.

*I did get a nicer sports car a nice benz (newer sexier model)...! :luv: I'm ashamed to say, but I love my car!

No, they can get much worse and probably will unless you have a solid business with a good customer base. Otherwise, you are spinning your wheels or you need a good dose of blind luck. Business 101.

Things have definitely been harder for that last couple of years. I certainly feel a bit more optimistic at the moment, but that could just be because I am getting used to things the way they are. You can’t be gloomy forever.

Business is much better with Thanksgiving and Christmas coming. After that, all bets are off. There is an overall improvement at the moment, but will it get back to the good old days? Prolly not. But it is still a great living that doesn't involve alarm clocks and pays way more than the average middle class executive.
Its time for new strategies that don't involve scams. Scam free is what made my business successful and with current conditions being what they are, there are many, and we know lots of them, who are scamming as fast as they can, and still losing money.

Prediction: When people start getting their credit cards payed off and/or get them back, things will improve by 40 per cent.
