The Purpose of Marketing

What is the purpose of marketing? If I ask 100 business people this simple question, I'll get 100 different answers. Some people would say marketing's job is to get your name out in the marketplace. Others would say marketing positions your company or builds your brand name. Most hope marketing generates sales. Others would say that marketing's job is to generate leads that are then handed over to the sales department. Still others would say it's to build brand awareness, hoping people remember the name when they go to buy. And there's always the group that just says marketing's job is "to make money."

All of these answers are partially right. All of the answers are results of what happens when your marketing and advertising does what it is supposed to do.

Marketing is supposed to do three things:

Objective #1: Capture the attention of your target market (prospects). Although this seems straight forward, there are right ways and wrong ways to do this. Our method ensures you always do it the right way. Unfortunately, it's done the wrong way 99 percent of the time.

Objective #2: Facilitate the prospect's decision-making process. Teach and train people how to make the best purchasing decision. Give them enough information to facilitate their making the best decision possible when buying what you have to sell.

Objective #3: Give your customers a specific, low-risk, easy-to-take action that further facilitates their ability to make a good decision. Lower the risk of taking the next step in the buying process so you can further educate them.

We'll get into each objective in more detail later.

Has Xnations become the b to b marketing board? Sad

It seems that some of the surfers of this board that visit it frequently and post here for different reasons are called "board whores" unlike others that came after months with a single line of text that always has in it this word "board whores". sorry for that but this is the way I see the things [rhetorical] I know that you don't name them... but I know that you consider me a "board whore"... You are always complaining that me and others are board whores, if this is bothering you so much I will quit my sig and continue posting here, I don't mind you know, I am just curious how will you name those that post on this board without a sig ?

Cams Master, at least you have positive things to say, unlike some others.

Dude, you crack me up. Cut and pasting stuff out of a manual is not exactly positive. Its spam.....four years worth. Now you tell me how pitching your product endlessly is positive please. Its one level above a bot.
Another reason why boards like this are on their last legs. No one has anything to say anymore. There are no discussion threads. Nothing controversial that stimulates said discussion.
Just my observation, but most boards at least have a few core members that keep it interesting. Yet another semi useful b to b spam is not interesting. Its freeking boring. Once in awhile, but not the entire three year amateur Podunk University MBA curriculum.

BTW, are you Evan the youtube guy that gets like 800 views for these marketing tip vids?

You really don't know what you're talking about, but that's ok, you're entitled to your opinion. These tips are meant to help people's businesses. Have you ever actually read them and tried to apply them to your business? I'll tell you that when I attend shows people thank me for my tips and newsletters and tell me that they have helped them with their marketing. It's very gratifying. Maybe you should try to do the same. It might help your business.

These tips are intended to sell your business. Nothing more. Nothing less. Spam. They do not contribute to the health of a board. They never stimulate discussion with a personal twist. They pitch your product. They are all pretty simple and generic and like a lot of snake oil, if they are so damn great, why aren't you rich and not wasting your time on a porn web board. Its really simple dude.
