Message board search function 99% of the time. Just filter out the crap.

I usually ask around first. I haven't been burned too many times but the few times I did it was usually because I didn't get feedback first.

There are too many fly by nights and scammers these days, If I don't know the person/company i'm dealing with i proceed with caution!
