no shell. It's a development of the railgun. Only a metallic bullet moves. No powder, no container.

It could probably fire steel shot. If built properly, the barrel probably shoot a train of projectiles travelling in the barrel at the same time.

It's a version of the weapon in the Schwartzie's sci-fi movie Eraser.

It has to shoot 16666 projectile per second to make a million rounds per minute.

It's more akin an electromagnetic sandblasting unit...

Depending on the mass and end velocity of the projectile, it must develop a considerable thrust (just like a jet engine or a sandblast gun).

Physics rulez!

With that many bullets flying in a straight line for such an amount of time, I'd imagine that you could almost start to see them.... not individually... but start to see a line being formed in front of you pretty much.

We are going to use it in the New Matrix film that is going to be filmed here.

What would your teacher say if you brought that in for show and tell?

The longer the barrel, the faster the "bullet". Some railguns fire so fast that they can shoot down aircraft without aiming ahead.

no moving parts except for the actual projectiles. Very cool indeed.
Sounds like more of a defensive weapon than offensive.

The problem with something like this is that you KNOW the moment you go out and buy one, they come out with the million and 1 rounds a minute version, and your neighbour gets it.

Too hard to keep up with the Jones.
