My point is that a fairly good webmaster is on dsl/cable or higher .. he thinks 20% of webmasters are on Dial up, I say Less then 15%, and that they shouldn't even be a consideration ... Hense the poll ...

I have no problems with "bricks of flash" being implemented into the design ... but I don't think that a page built solely in flash is a good idea ... it's hard to discuss it without everybody knowing the specific design that was being proposed ...

I like ADDING flash to the page ... but the page should not be ALL flash

examples of flash specific elements

You have to take into consideration what the surfer is using! Not what we use ! After all they are the customers, and where would we be without them:badcomp:

Absolutely right JFK! as we do propose dialers as a billing solution, we do test our websites with dialers as well...

I believe he said this was for a webmaster resource site. However, be that as it may, we have a sponsor at ContentLotto that was using a Flash page for their main URL, and even though I am on cable modem, it took so damn long to load that the 15 seconds of the site ad would expire before the page finished loading.

I hate Flash for business, too impatient I guess.

He discussed a couple of things but said "especially for a webmaster resource site" So can I be 1/2 right ??:bonk:

I agree with Hungreyman, that if the whole page isn't flash, its ok. Like headers and stuff. Those are some good examples he put up there. I also, like the nice flash buttons/banners. They are small and can be a lot cooler than just a regular animated gif.

Got cable out here and would never go back to dial up. The only other thing I would try is Wireless. It is supposedly faster then cable and dsl. I actually hope to start off with my first wireless interner service node sometime next year.:)

I agree, a site that is fully Flash is awful.. a good example of bad is
http://www.citizen.com.hk/index.htm
The navigation sucks .. every page is "Loading..." and on the home page the navigation like rotates.. it's very artsy, but I think confusing for the average (L)user...

Moderation is the key to almost anything (except sex :dancer: )...

The advantage of Flash is that the file sizes are smaller b/c it uses vector graphics.. some peeps exploit that so you end up with sites that are Flash overload... like the Citizen's site.

JMHO :thanks:

oops forgot to say that you can't beat broadband if you do any online RPGs... :xthumbs:

I'm on Cable..never had a prob with it ever.

I agree with Hungry, Flash in spots is kewl, but for the most part, sites done in Flash completely in this biz is not needed. IMO
Nothing worse than waiting for shitty pre loaders to load shitty flash! And single words or a sentence zipping across the screen in parts is a waste of time.

Webmasters should know who their surfer demographic is, gamer sites and techie sites that cater to the 15-25 know that 75% or more of their target audience will have hi speed connections. The porn surfer demographic is not quite there yet.

I will be in a few weeks hooking up my cable connection to a wireless network to play with it. Considering offering setting up small wireless networks as an additional business service. Should be quite cool to do that. :D

I have a cable hookup at home.
But at work I have a T1 connected to a windows server that I am currently using for my pc replacement.
I can definitely zip thru the pics at work(on my free time of course).
