Heard a rumour that cigarettes are going up in price on friday .. AGAIN!

they just went up in proce a few days ago to about 8.50 a pack .. I head that by next week they will be up to 9.50

Mind you it's still under $10 ..

However .. that's close to $70 a week ... $210 a month and $3640 a year ..

I need to quite .. But don't have the motivation or drive to do it .. anyone try some of those quite smoking methods out there? Doyou know of any to try ? I'm told that I will gain waight if I stop smoking .. I don't want that to happen .. but then again I don't eat right anyways .. it's 5:30 in the afternoon and I haven't eaten yet ..

some help please

Vid, you got any Indian cigarette connections?

It's going to come to that again just like it did in the early 90s...

If you can't quit, or really don't want to, buy them online through the Native American Indian reservations in the U.S. You would pay less per pack. Buy them in bulk and keep them cold.

At the same time, it's hard to say whether it would actually be cheaper for you or not. You lose a percentage in the exchange rate, plus depends on what they would charge to ship them.

You might be able to work out a deal with a buddy living in the States. Have them delivered to an address in the States. Then depending on what the rules are with Customs and tobacco, someone could just throw them in a box, mark the value under $50.00 or gift, and send it straight through UPS.

I don't know. It could be more of a pain in the ass, or more expensive, but it was just a thought. <img src="http://smilies.sofrayt.com/%5E/k/dontknow.gif" width="37" height="15">

Our French governement had the great idea to raise cigarette's price too!! Thye wanna struggle against cancer as they say...

We used to pay €3.20 a pack and now it costs almost €6!!!

Hopefully, as i travel, i can buy cigarettes outside of France!! For example, in Romania, a pack is only €1!!!

And i have no intention to quit smoking damn!!!

you should not make fun of the smokers... I mean with the money they spend for taxes on each stick they just pay for a quite a few things that would cost a lot more otherwise

I'd be quitting so fast if I had to pay that much. Smoking and coffee are my only vices so I don't mind so much now........ no drugs or alcohol for to spend money on, but I'll tell ya, they go there where I live and I'll be losing one of my vices real damn fast. ::-|

My god I would quit if I had to pay $9.00 per pack. I live in Florida and I can get packs around $2.00. You guys are taxed to death up in Canada. I know up in DC and NY the smokes are pricey. Hasnt hit down in FLorida yet.

Okay guys and dolls, statistics say that it takes an average of 7 attempts before successfully quitting smoking...I'm on my 3rd genuine attempt.

Everyone that smokes needs to quit, but let's face it... we don't quit because we're addicted, but moreso because we ENJOY smoking...

I'm at less than 5 cigarettes a day, and allow myself 2 guilt free ones that I smoke right in my living room. I haven't smoked inside since I've had kids, so smoking in my living room is an absolute luxury. I like to wait til the kiddos are in bed and I'm completely settled in for the evening, mix a cocktail and smoke two cigs (100's, so they're long), one right after the other.

The two guilt free cigs have helped me realize that I'll probably never stop smoking completely... but if I can have my two cigarettes a day, I've eliminated the other 20+ that I was smoking, and still get to enjoy the ritual of smoking... and I really look forward to it at the end of my day.

I haven't quit, but that's how I've cut back significantly...

My pennies worth,

Fyrflygrl!

It's really not that hard to quit smoking. You just find a relative or friend that's dying of lung cancer and hang out with them while they die. I comforted my grandfather during his last days and watched him go from a 165 pound semi pro golfer to a 98 pound bag of bones in 6 months.

The thing that kills me about people that I try to convince to stop smoking is when they say 'well, we've all got to die from something'. That's very true, but it doesn't have to be something incredibly painful that makes your family suffer too.

Before you get too upset with me I'd like to point out that I started smoking when I was 14 and smoked until I graduated from college, but after the above mentioned unpleasantness I just quit. It didn't take a patch or support groups, it just took the realization that I wanted to live a long and happy life and a little will power.

Oh, and for anyone that uses the excuse that you'll gain weight after you quit smoking. OMG, listen to yourself. You're willing to do something that's incredibly unhealthy for you just to keep from gaining weight? Have you ever heard of excercising? ::-|

Awwww! what a honey! (Thanks!) btw, I really like your latest 'inspiration'.. the pics of the little french gals that you've posted.. (don't know if you posted them here.. but I've looked at them almost every time I've come across the post on a different board and they're, well, they're fucking great... sultry, stylish, edgy....

Nuff thread hijacking here! (sorry!)

Hammer, I've thought often about your situation... I've never been in it... the desire to avoid it has helped me cut down, too. I love my family like NO OTHER and wanna be here for them and not miss anything....

Twinkley, a quitting buddy is a FAB idea and would work.....my friends aren't quitting with me, but I call 'em a lot for a quick 5 on the phone... sometimes, you've gotta have something to do besides smoke. Friends rock :)

Vid... it's time to quit man... ya gotta just "do it"

Pick a quitting smoking program and stick with it.

Avoid all of the "triggers" that get you to light up... not smoking when you first wake up and when you go to bed and drinking less alcohol are the best ways to cut down before quitting.

Write down 10 damn good reasons to quit smoking and put it on your wall... READ IT OUT LOUD EVERY DAY when you get up and when you go to bed.

Start telling everyone NOW that you are gonna quit... and force them to humiliate you if you start up again.

Drink lots of water and masturbate... A LOT. Chew gum... stay away from other smoke the first month.

Take it from someone who has been there and succeeded. I've saved a lot of $$ and a few years of life.

Good advice, dude... and Kudos for quitting!! (We smokers understand what an accomplishment that is)...

Tell me, do you still think about smoking? Want to smoke? ever?

(I have a friend that smoked for over 20 years... he carried his smokes in the breast pocket of his shirts... he's quit for over 10 years, and still I catch him patting his chest and reaching for that pocket.... )

The only problem I have with this is for every 10 reasons I can think of NOT to smoke - I can come up with 20 frusterations that make me want to light up :/

Yes, I definitely still think about smoking from time to time... even five years later I still have an urge... but that's very rare. It occurs less and less over time, but each hurdle I clear makes me that much stronger. The worst times are stressful situations or if I'm drunk... both of which are also very rare for me as well :)

Hahahah... well Vid... you can take my advice or leave it... it just sounds like to me you basically aren't serious enough about quitting with those kinds of excuses and is in fact a losing battle for ya bro.

Here's a few more reasons for ya in case ya care :)

1. Long term smoking can cause impotence.

2. Smoking makes you stink.

3. Smokers ARE treated as 2nd class citizens... and it's becoming more and more apparent as more smoking laws are enforced.

4. Think about it... you are breathing burning tobacco... how intelligent is that?

5. Cigarette smoking doesn't look cool anymore.

Why do I even try tho :bonk:
