Ok so it's -30 here in lovely Montreal Deep freeze Canada .. I had a lovely night planned .. was gonna have dinner at my parents .. then I wwas supposed to be off to a couple of Strip clubs to help out a freind that's featuring ..I also had a nice bottle of Wine that I was gonna drink with a girlfriend of mine back at her place once I was done with the clubs .. But my oh my how the night ended up differently ..

it all started on the drive to my parents house, right on the highway I hear a thumb .. It's my tire a blow out (the thrid time this season during the deep freeze whether that my Michilan tires blows cus of the cold) .. I quickly get off the highway to the service road .. but unfortunitly there isn't a shoulder (emergency lane) since the city still hasn't been abole to clean out highways .. so I nudge myself to the snow banks, call CAA (canadian version of AAA) .. they tell me to find some place warm to wait for they're call since it's a busy night .. I call a friend tht lives ten minutes away from where I am .. He comes to get me and we go to a coffee shop right behind where my truck is .. After waiting 3 hours for a tow truck I gat a call back from CAA telling me that it will be at least another 45 minutes .. And that I should leave my keys with the truck in case they can't make it to me in that allowed time frame (mind you they kept telling that because of my loaction I was a priority) ..

I decide with my friend to head over to my truck to drop off the keys ... we get there only to find a police car and flat bed tow truck with my vehicule on it! .. He fuckin draged my truck up on there in the park position .. I get out ot speak with the cops .. they tell me that they got a complaint and had to move my vehicule but that since I was there the tow truck would deliver my vehicle to my garage ... And that there was a ticket waiting for me in my truck that had the tow truck fees included in it .. 183$ ...

Fine we follow the tow truck to the garage of my choice (one exit futher) ... I notice the tow truck driver is on the phone rather then taking my truck down .. So I walk over to him in this freezing cold whether and ask him what's up .. he tells me that the dispatch wants me to pay an additional 120$ plus 15% taxes if I want my truck dropped off .. Hell no .. The Police ticket already has all those rates included ... After lots of arguing and many phone calls the truck driver leaves with my truck to bring it to they're pound .. So now it's gonna cost me 350$ to get my truck back .. another tow to the Garage to get a 4 new tires (since they've been draging my truck in Park, and new rims) ... If I was gonna get fucked up the ass the least they could of down was ask me to drop my pants!!!! .. So Now I'm without my truck, without my GF and a nice bottle of wine and by tomorrow afternoon I'll be out close to 600$ !!!

Someone is gonna pay for this and it's not me ...

Thank you for allowing me a forum to rant and rave .. Good night

sounds like fun, it is about 46 degrees here, I am thinking of rolling the bike out and going for a midnight spin :p

why do you have to replace the rims? The rubber and ice should probably protect them, I would be more concerned with the damage done to the transmission.

I didn't share this so you guys can be dicks .. you can do that all on your own .. I shared this to get it off my chest .. and see if anyone has any suggestions on how to handle this tomorrow ..

I'm thinking of calling the police to go to the pound an d pick up my car since they are holding unlawfully .. I never had to deal with shit like this before . wondering if anyone had any ideas .. you can keep your dick head comments to yourself

yea Vid, even as much as I don't like cops, they're probably your best bet, because if you go over to the impound for the truck, they are likely to call the police on you if you get out of hand.

I think your right gunner .. First thing tomorrow I need to call the station and see about gettin gmy car back .. this is extortion on the part of the tow company .. if I go there .. I could lose my cool and end up in jail. Thanks brother

Good luck, Vid. That really sucks. The police are probably the best people to call at this point if it's a private towing company. CAA might be responible partly too for making you wait. Of course you weren't with your car too, because that would have been unsafe in that weather. I think if you call the police, they can tell you what recourse you have against the tower.

good luck

I live in Ontario Canada. I have never heard of towing vehicles (unless you were sticking out into the highway?) so quickly. Here they ticket you with a warning or just drive by. If they see your vehicle there 24 hours later they ticket or tow.

You should have taken the offer from the tow truck driver to pay the extra 120. See these tow companies are paid by the police to take your car to the impound not to your choice of shops. The reason they cant be flexible is that they see it as bothersome that some people would ask for you to take their vehicle to the other side of town. As well they get paid per vehicle they drop off at the pound. The actual cops know nothing of what the real deals are. They say really stupid things all the time (oh dont worry thats only going to be a few hundred bucks to fix LOL)

It sucks but your not going to get off on this. Now if you had stayed in your car the police would have been oh so happy to help you, calling caa for you etc. they would not have let you stay in the car mind you (-30 is freakin cold, been that cold here for a week!) but you would have had a smiling cop who would not have fucked you over so bad.

Maybe next time a note on the window saying "I am at the coffee shop waiting for the tow truck" might help LOL

Leave your keys in the vehicle? what are they nuts?

well if I rememebr correctly, read a while back that TECHNICALLY they can't keep your car. You can go take it, they can accuse you for getting it. For trespassing yes. That they can do

And as for towing on the Highway, CAA should have told you that on highways... certain towing companies have the right to tow only. No matter what you say. It's a deal struck up with the gov't or something. So no matter if CAA is coming up and gonna tow your car, the driver would have to tell you he can't. He doesn't have a right on the highway.
The driver/company would get fined if caught. And probably an argument with the towing copany responsible for that section of the highway

But best way is to call and talk with the cop station (i presume SQ in dorval) and talk with them. See what you can do. The towing copanies are all scam artists. Trust me.. know few people who do it and my mechanic has told me many stories.

Anotehr example is many towing companies have scanners so when you call a company and you not member of CAA or whatever, many will run to your car and start towing it. No matter if not the one you called.
That's why when you are part of one, always check to see if they are. They shouldn't ask for any $$$ at all. Just your membership #.

the saga continues .. LOL

Buggy .. The truck was on the service road . but now I realize I would of been better off on the highway with one of the exclusive Tow companies .. Caa would have had to just repay me what the tow cost and I would of been towed within 20 min (it's the Allowed time for the exclusive Gov't contracts)

Ok so last night I got real drunk And crashed out around 6 am .. I got up this morning at 9 and started my telephone campaign to the police... I got to the inpound lot where the guy behind the counter tells me I gotta go station 25 where the cops there will give me a pink slip that will allow me to get my truck .. So fine I head to the station (other side of town) the cops start freaking out cus my ticket was written wrong And I never should of been charged a towing fee by the city ... The police women was so nice (my blue eyes might of had something to do with it) that she stayed on the phone with the tow company for an hour and half till they agreed to reduce my tow charge to 65$ ... How ever my spare blew a week ago and I never had the chance to replace it .. So I need a spare pronto .. I borrowed one form a friend but unfortunitly not knowing much about cars or about my own car I got a 5 bolt spare, my truck needs a 6 bolt .. LOL .. So now I called back CAA who is on they're way to tow my truck home free of charge and are promising to reinborse me for the origninal tow .. they also are offering to pay a percentage of the ticket since they are the ones that told me to leave the vehicule and find some place warm to wait for them. Therefore beening at fault for the abandonment fine of 183 $ .. Oh I forgot to mention that when I was at the inpound the guy behind the counter tells me that I had a call .. it was the police sargeant whom was asking me to cum by his station later tonight inrder to getmy fine reduced .. LOL .... And I just called the guys at the Inpound and told them Caa is on they're way .. one guy offered to cum and pick me up if I didn't have a ride to the inpound .. Might of been cus I mentioned I shoot porn and left them with some of my cards .. LOL

So just as Gunner said .. Keep my cool and I'll get my way ... Holy shit what a weekend I need more booze !

Piece of shit. They're probably made with old Camembert skin or frog legs skin.

Get REAL winter tires: japanese Toyo GE2 Observe if you have a real wheel traction or Blizzak for front wheel drives.

THE tire experts in Montreal are Talon on Diab St. in St-Laurent. Access is via Henri-Bourassa or from the 13 South service road between Henri-Bourassa and the 40, they are located in the North-West quadrant of HWY 13 and HWY 40. They supply ice racing teams, the Porshe racing club, the Mercedes racing club, the BMW car club, and a bunch of other racing clubs. They will tell you which tires are REAL winter tires and which one are wimpy ones...

That's the best advice I could give you. I've been buying my tires there for almost a decade.

The also volunteer at events such as the high performance driving schools to service (for free) the tires of the racing students.

They're real super guys.

Ask to speak to Howard.

Next time something happens on the highway, STAY on it. It is the CAA that is the official towing service...

Otherwise, you get the first hustler driving a truck with a winch on it...

So it's Metropolitan who's patrolled by CAA ? Or maybe they recently changed...
