Why not give tokens or points for every post? And get some good shit to give for those points. You guys have a very good looking shirt and one that a person could wear in public without getting to many looks. People love free.
You guys should push for that poker game also.

Just my two cents on making this board better and bring in more traffic. That is the point of these contest we are having are they not?

The frequent contests for money and other useful shit more than make up for no points or rewards store IMO

I don't see tokens being a useful addition to any board really. All they do is encourage people to make stupid and useless posts so that they can get free trinkets. Perhaps quality of traffic on a forum should be thought of as being more important than quantity. There's already one GFY. I post for business reasons as much as I post for social reasons and I actually prefer it when there aren't pages of shit to wade through to find the useful or interesting posts.

That doesn't mean that GFY et al can't be useful resources but it does mean that the ratio of crap to gold is far different. How many of the "webmasters" that post on GFY are even out of highschool?

very good points, all boards talk about regulating there points systems but thats just impossible. How in the hell are they gonna go through EVERY post and make sure they are all on topic and at least a certian length?

I could care less about post count, points, tokens, or any of that other gimmicky crap. I don't post on boards because I can earn prizes, toys, whatever... I simply post because I enjoy posting.

For example...
It's not enough for some people that they can receive an XNations shirt for reaching 100 posts. XNations doesn't even really make any special rules that each post has to contain an (x) amount of characters and / or the post has to be relevant.

XNations holds contests for members. XNations enables the sig option, custom html page, links in profiles... It's not enough.

People want more. They want an XBox. They want CD players, DVD players, jackets... They want, want, and want. In reality, they don't do a damn thing to earn them.

Do people really think the freeloaders care about the board they are posting on? Hell no. If a board stops supplying all the toys, the people who post to win things, will go find some other board to mooch off of.

From a business standpoint, it makes perfectly good sense to implement these things. Post count increases. Member base increases. Page views increase. Board recognition increases. The more these elements increase, the higher the fee for advertisers.

At what price is the board willing to pay?

I just personally feel that if XNations is doing what everyone else is, you will lose the base membership and your board will be overrun by moochers. XNations will lose the charm and credibility it displays now.

I know it's not an easy decision. Probably one that was debated since the launch of XNations. There's a happy median somewhere. I'd actually be all for implementing new things such as tokens, points, whatever, if there was a way to control it, so the board does not become abused. But without the control, the board would run wild.

This post was not directed to anyone or any board in particular. It is simply my own personal view / rant.

Quite simply put ... I don't choose to post at ANY board because of the free shit they are going to give me ...

Although that is the only good thing GFY is for ...

My posting loyalties are won by information offered first and foremost, and how genuine the people on that board seem .... a board full of 15 year old keyboard warriors will not get my loyalty.
