I will soon be in the market for a new laptop computer.
There are so many out there now, so I'm asking for recommendations.

What I have now is a Toshiba Satellite
Pentium 4 / 1.6ghz
256 RAM
28 gig HD

I like the strength of this one, and wouldn't want anything weaker.
I need to run Photophop, and I like the multimedia aspects.

So what do you recommend?

Pavilion zd7280us Notebook
Intel Pentium 4 Processor, 3.2GHz, with Hyper-Threading Technology, 1GB RAM, 80GB Hard Drive, 17-inch WSXGA+ TFT Display, DVD+RW Drive, Windows XP Media Center Edition 2004

The screen is alost letter box style which is very nice.

This one kicks ass but it depends on your budget.

Dell.

I have a Dell Inspiron 8200 P3 1.2 528 RAM 30 Gig HD

I use PS CS and DW MX 2004 and do not have any issues, it's my main machine and I do it all on here.

The only issues I have had was a bad fan (design flaw I am told has been fixed) and the HD blew up, but I blame that on myself since when I picked it up I was putting all the stress on the HD.

I've had it for 3 years, and have had more issues with MS then the pc itself.

when I get a new laptop it will be a dell, but when I get a new desk top it will be a MAC, since I am SICK to death of MS BS.

Either Go For A Good Toshiba, or get a Sony, depending on what you are going to do with it...BUT BOTH ROCK!

Yeah, I thought I was taking a risk when I got this Dell, but turned out to be the best PC I've ever owned. I bought it for travel more then anything, but I got tired of trying to move crap back and forth and I liked the laptop more then a desktop.

Dell is good; I give them a 4.5 outta 5.

Dell, huh? Well I'm going to have to have a serious look at them then.

My current Toshiba has served me well, but I fear it may be on it's last legs. It has been shutting down without warning on it's own lately. Usually when the media player or some heavy flash is running. No way to figure out exactly why either.

So I will have a good look at Dell, Sony, and the new Toshiba products as well.

You’re the second person I have heard that a Toshiba has shut down on its own. That will confirm for me not to try those.

Well I have an IBM thinkpad.

All I can say is don't get one of those.
It's a great laptop but it has serious battery issues.

I've researched it on the net and theres quite a few posts about the problem.

I know the Toshiba's will last and are durable, so you can't go wrong. Also, I know a few peeps who have purchased the HP 17" widscreen laptop and they are happy with it, however, it is one of the heavier ones out there.

I never thought much about IBM Think pads till I got one.

Was extremely happy with the R50 my office got me, on a R40 now, and it's pretty powerful for a laptop.

well I had a compaq last 4 years for me and only died cause the power supply shorted out and fried it

My current laptop is a dell with
2.4GHZ
512 DDR ram
30 gig
dvd/cdrw
15"
wireless

I love it and use it more then my desktop now. I would like to upgrade my ram.

Anyone know if Dell does like everyone else and puts 2 sticks of 256 to equal 512 or gives you a stick of 512?

SBJ..that will depend on what you chose when when bought it. chances are its 2 sticks of 256, less you bumped it for an adiditional cost to have 1 stick of 512

I guess you didn't see my post further up?

I have a thinkpad and it has a known battery issue.

mind you mine is an older model but I've researched it and I've seen many posts about the exact same problem.

It runs for 5 or 10 minutes then the battery drains right out and it shuts down.
