I'm being threatened with litigation by Acacia Media

I just got a big thick package in the mail from Acacia Media saying that my website www.chezchris.ca is infringing on patents owned by them in regards to my site having downloadable movies.

I heard about this company on some webmaster newsletter I recently received. It said Acacia was going after the big guys -- what the fuck do they want with me???

Should I be worried about this?

Is this patent thing just a load of bullshit?

Anyone know any good patent lawyers in Toronto???

This isn't something to take TOO lightly, but I think it's a safe bet Acacia is going to be defeated in court. Just don't pay them anything until a judge has ordered you to!

Hmmm, isn't there a court decision yet and Acacida has been defeated? I think to recall having something like this discussed with Twinkley... but I might be wrong... my head is currently full national economics and law stuff!

Pricks! I feel a defeat coming for those leeches.

You are just getting yours??

They tried this with a bunch of people a couple of months ago - basically, they were laughed off and brushed aside.

Then they came back saying they werent gonna sue, but to continue, they *ask* if we will pay them so much in royalties...

Again, laughed off....

Havent heard anything since.... last I heard public news wise, they were nothing to worry about.

Well, I'm no-where-near a "current events" type, but I'm not sure that this is over...

Last I heard was a few weeks ago. It seems that "Virgin Radio" bowed down to them and paid them a licensing fee...

This is bad for us, as the more people they get to pay the license fee's, the harder it will for them to be defeated...

Huggs!

Hmmmm first I have heard of that.....

I'm going to have to dig up the info, but i was certain that there was no basis for it cause of the patent dates and the dates the actual technology started being used weren't matched up right....

More info to come :)

There are 8 company's paying royalty fees (last I heard... maybe more by now), and Lightspeed Cash has been served.

How odd...

maybe we just arent big enough to
deal with :)
