got a favorite sci-fi?

I am a fan of everything Star Trek, and am anxiously awaiting the next movie to come out. What about everyone else? Science fiction fans?

Evil Chris 02-16-2008 03:50 PM

I like those movies also. I think most people are fans of Star Wars to carying degrees too.

One sci-fi I saw recently that blew my mind was Deja-Vu with Dezel Washington. What a very unique story. I highly recommend it.

Hi VGer,

I am also a fan of all things Star Trek, and I can see that you're a particular fan of the first Star Trek movie, "Star Trek: The Motion Picture"! So am I!! This movie is unfortunately highly underrated and despite the so-so acting is one of my favorites because its one of the "True" science fiction movies of all of the Trek movies.

I saw the previous for Star Trek 2008 and I'm drooling. In case anyone hasn't seen it yet, go to

http://www.paramount.com/startrek/hd/index.html

for an HD trailer.

I
can't
fucking
wait!

Other sci-fi faves are Heroes, Terminator, Space 1999, Battlestar Galactica, Buck Rogers, BTTF, etc etc...

I LOOOVE sci-fi too! I love Star Trek a lot, and I watched an awsome sci-fi movie last weekend... Sushine I think the title was. Great movie.

Sophie.

I am a HUGE Star Trek fan and huge scifi and fantasy fan. Best show on television ever is Star Trek: Deep Space Nine with a character that wasn't an every episode character being the best written character for tv, Elim Garak. Lex and Lionel Luthor are equally well written on Smallville.

Hi Virgule3,

I heard alot about Sunshine - some good, some bad. Can you tell me about it without giving away any plotpoints? I heard its similar to "The Fountain". Is that true?

I never saw The Fountain.

It's a sci fi movie similar to 2001 in the sense that there isn't a lot of action. It's very psychological and the characters are great. I was on the edge of my seat the whole time I watched the movie.

It's worth watching it.

Sophie.

Mark, I saw The Fountain on cable a couple weeks ago. It's on the movie channels presently.
My review is that it was a strange film that was supposed to be about the fountain of youth, but it was confusing and dark. I'm someone who doesn't mind a deep movie that provokes imagination and thought, too. This movie tried to do that, but in my opinion it failed.

You can pass on this one, or find out for yourself.

For me, Star Trek is the Base.
Then all the great fifties, sixties and seventies movies.
Then came Star Wars.
Then all the great eighties and nineties flicks.

Personal Landmarks (SF movies that moved me):
The Time Machine
Planet Of The Apes
Fahrenheit 451
2001: A Space Odyssey
Silent Running
Rollerball
Star Wars
Alien
Altered States
Blade Runner
The Matrix

Those are just off the top of my head

What a great list! I totally agree with you.

I fully admit to being a complete Star Wars Whore!!!

All hail the original Holy Trinity! lol
Empire Strikes Back is the best, imo.

Silent Running (Finally bought it on DVD just yesterday, actually LOL)
Blade Runner
Alien
Ok seriously...looking way too much like MediaGuy all of a sudden...I MUST STOP!

Though I am a fan of the Star Trek movies, they've just never really done it for me...:bonk: (Mark is never gonna let me off my chain again) but I am hoping that Star Trek The Tour will extend it's run in Long Beach until after the end of March, so I can go!!! *crossing fingers*

Best sci-fi lines ever:

"I know"
"Remember"
"Because the needs of the one, outwiegh the needs of the many"
"If only you could see what I've seen with your eyes"
"It's me" ($10 to whoever knows where this line is from - c'ept you Greg)

Star Wars and Alien are two favorite sci-fi movies, but i'm not a huge fan of sci-fi in general.

Are there any Farscape fans lurking around here?

Sticky Dana 02-20-2008 11:43 PM

I think my favorite Sci-Fi would be Buffy the Vampire Slayer, (if that's a sci-fi I'm not sure lol). That's probably kind of dorky but I loved the series.
