When are you going to start decorating for the holidays?

We are going to start this weekend!

I can't wait to put the walkway lights up and lights around the door, it looks so pretty I leave them up until Feb :) Our street is so dark otherwise. We're going to decorate the mantle and other 'out of reach' places too with colored lights.

We haven't put up a christmas tree in over 5 years - it's too much hassle with the cats climbing in it and knocking it over, and now with the baby I think it's dangerous. We're going to get a mini live one to put on the mantle and decorate, and then try to keep it year to year so it can grow with the baby.

after Sinterklaas

thats kinda the rule we have here in Holland. Its a Saint from Spain who really existed, I know in some northern states of the US they know him too, lived some 400 yrs ago

Nowadays we kinda play that he arrives from Spain in a boat gives the presents to the kids (the poor kids as in it used to be like that 100s yrs ago)

So we have sweet stuff marzipan is what you know for sure and a lot more. When hes gone most ppl start decorating their homes

I will be out of town for Christmas, so I don't think I will decorate.

Cyndalie 11-24-2008 09:04 AM

We put up the walk way lights and the mantle decorations last weekend. We'll be away the weekend after Thanksgiving (our 5 year anniversary)

TheLegacy 11-24-2008 11:06 AM

We already put out lights etc on the lawn, but wont do the major stuff until dec

Probably start the day after Thanksgiving though I think we will wait a week before putting up the tree being we get a live one.

Our tree is up. Looks nice too.

I help my mom with her tree usually around my bday mid December.

One of the best things (AND hardest) things we ever did was, when our kids were 0-4ish, not put up our tree until Christmas Eve AFTER the kids went to bed. So, on Christmas Eve everything was as normal as everyday. Then on Christmas morning when the kids awoke, EVERYTHING was there...the tree, the decorations and the gifts. The look on our kids faces was worth the late night effort though.

When our kids hit the 4-5ish age, we told them that they were old enough that Santa needed their help (because they were old enough), and he needed THEM to put up their tree so he could see all the kids in the world.

I'd highly suggest that to anyone.

I posted that because I believe your child is about the right age to start doing that Cyndalie.

We're going to wait on putting up any kind of tree until she's old enough not to put everything in sight in her mouth. We are going to spend Xmas morning at my in-laws and they put up 2 trees so we'll at least have the right atmosphere xmas morning.

What you do is a really good idea. We may try that next year.
