What movies have you seen lately?

Here are some quick reviews of some we've watched recently:

Yes Man: (Jim Carrey) - Fun flick, it was entertaining and Jim Carrey wasn't annoying. Worth a watch when you're in the mood for a lighthearted flick.

City of Ember : (Bill Murray) - Pretty cool flick if you're 9-13. The concept was cool, it reminded me of Dark City. It's a sci fi flick about a future city that was buried to save humanity, who's power cell is going dark.

The Day The Earth Stood Still : (Keanu Reeves) - I love sci fi and this film fell pretty flat of my expectations. Nothing big happens, the acting is so-so, and i pretty much missed the end due to impromptu nookie on the living room floor..... I wasn't impressed (with the movie, the nookie was great!)

Role Models : (Paul Rudd, Elizabeth Banks) - This movie is about 2 guys who get in trouble and have to mentor kids to avoid jail time. The kids are wily and crazy and turn the guys into better people. Decent, but not great. Good family movie with older kids I guess.

Star Trek- holy shit, that was awesome...was worried they were going to screw it up, but the casting, the script, the effects, everything fell into place

Wolverine- not unpleasant to watch, but they took some serious liberties with the Weapon X story (and don't even get me started on Deadpool!), but Liev Schrieber was an awesome Sabretooth

Coraline- great film, dark but not too spooky, visuals in it are amazing and it's cute without being smarmy

impromptu living room nookie...haven't had that in far too long!

Star Trek: How much has been already said? Great movie. Even if you're not a trekkie, you'll love it.

Last House on the Left: Brutally good re-make with a few moments that will make you shudder.

While She was Out: A recent Kim Basinger movie that FB brought home. It turned out to be pretty cool. Suburban housewife with the regular issues gets harassed by a group of thugs in the British Columbia woods.

Forgetting Sarah Marshall: Great movie. A lot funnier than I thought it was going to be.

Quarantine: Good psycho thriller of a group of people trapped in an inner-city appartment building.

Quantum of Solace: Best Bond movie maybe of all time. Daniel Craig is great as 007. Can't believe so many people don't like these updated spy movies.

Cyndalie 05-14-2009 03:10 PM

You like Quantum? It lacked some luster for me.

Just watched DOUBT last night, wasn't too impressed, however the acting was spectacular!

The only remotely new movie I have seen lately is Forgetting Sarah Marshall which I loved. I also recently watch 9 - 5: Days in Porn. It was a decent enough documentary, just didn't like the way it jumped all over the place.

TondaB 05-18-2009 01:39 PM

I am behind on flick watching as well, but catching up fast! Out of the ones I have seen recently, Remember the Titans was very good.

thruma 05-19-2009 03:55 PM

I just saw The Wrestler and it was okay. I'm not a wrestling fan so maybe I just don't know but I thought some of the storyline was a bit fake.

SexArise! Chick 05-26-2009 10:40 PM

Angels and Demons was the last movie I've seen. Pretty long. It was okay, thought it would be better.

DrChango 05-27-2009 01:26 PM

Saw Terminator with my bro over the weekend...had some plot issues, but it was worth paying for to see on the big screen. Visually, it was stunning

Kacy 05-27-2009 06:35 PM

Night at the Museum 2 in IMAX this week end, its was pretty funny.
So, at ThePalms in Vegas they have a frigging movie theatre in there! I never knew that, pretty cool for people in Vegas with kids in tow :)

That is one of the few sequels I have seen #1 of, so I am excited to see it in the theatre. IMAX ROCKS!

I loved the HANGOVER! Up there with Old school for sure! :laughout::laughout::laughout:

Also saw:

Seven Pounds: Pretty interesting story. I like it.

He's just not that into you: Was pretty funny. A lot better than I had expected it to be.

Cyndalie 06-17-2009 01:26 PM

I agree about "He's just not that into you"

Gran Torino was pretty good too.

dyonisus 06-19-2009 05:02 PM

Checked out Land of the Lost... It was not good!

Role Models... Meh could have been better

Fast & Furious 4 - Love Paul Walker and Vin Diesel

TheLegacy 06-19-2009 09:59 PM

Last real movie I saw in a theater was Star Trek (2x's) - so nice to feel comfortable with characters again. I want to see UP soon, just not sure when I have the time

StripAndPoker 06-20-2009 06:39 PM

"The Hangover" was great)))

What movies have you seen lately

Youve seen way more zombie movies than I have, zmoney08, but Im surprised to see that the original 1968 Night of the Living Dead is not on your list. Thats the primary mold from which modern zombie movies are made. You must have left it off your list by mistake. What about the older zombie movies, like I Walked with a Zombie and White Zombie- the "real" kind made from voodoo magic when zombies werent cannibalistic ghouls? Dont those count any more?
