Thin Red Line.

Itīs about war, but its done in a special way, and I would say its a very poetic movie aswell. think I watched it for 5th or 6th time a couple of days ago.

Platoon is a golden oldie aswell. Im in me PRE morning coffee state, so cant remember any else. ;-)

I feel ashamed to say I haven't seen more then half of these movies that you guys have listed.. I should really take a day to watch Saving private Ryan.

The Thin Red Line is indeed a good one.

I think I prefer a war movie that captures the spirit of the soldier, whether it's good or bad. (it's usually bad)

Another example of one of my favourites is The Deer Hunter.
Not really about the war itself, but more about how the war affected a group of friends. I still find that movie incredibly powerful.

Full Metal Jacket is definitely my favorite. Then Clear and Present Danger, followed by Platoon.

Across the Universe - ... it's a musical based on beatles music based around the time of the Vietnam war. It's not a war movie as the ones previously listed, however, the storyline is based on the war.

As far as an outright war movie, I'd go with Saving Private Ryan and Platoon..also The hunt for Red October was awesome(Cold War).

Across the Universe is a musical with the Vietnam war in the background for half the movie. It's not a war movie at all. :viking:

Sorry buddy but I don't think Across the Universe as anything to do with war movies.

But with that said it's probably the best movie I seen in 2007.

Not really a movie but the best depiction of WWII I've seen bar none.

Less well known (and not without its faults), but an excellent film nonetheless, is Sam Peckinpah's Cross of Iron.

Strickie 03-11-2008 04:24 PM

I liked "Black hawk Down"

Slippery 03-13-2008 11:35 AM

Platoon would probably be my favourite, but I haven't seen most of the ones that have already been mentioned here. I should do a "war movie weekend" soon!
