This should be Interesting ..

Free Porn needs to convert better

MegaGiga 02-01-2003 12:20 PM

The problem is not free porn.. its the various traffic sources (such as tgp's and search engines) that impose stupid rules designed to ensure we make less money! We should give them lots of crap free porn and then hammer them with every form of advertising we can think of!

The surfer is not your friend, he is your food! :D

I have said it a hundred times in the past few months, we need pics on html for any type of gallery/freesite. That would provide another banner and text link at least to try an convert.

Apollo 02-01-2003 12:58 PM

TGPs and the such don't want that though, they want the money for themselves and giving you more opportunity to make a sale is one less opportunity for them to make the sale themselves....personally I think if TGPs STOPPED trying to cater to the sponsors and only disallowed things to really piss off sponsors (like autodialers, popups etc) and instead catered to webmasters...we'd all do much better in those areas.

silverway 02-01-2003 01:08 PM

As a surfer I like free porn.
As a webmaster I don't like free porn.
Why : 'cause all of our customer can have a sexual relief simply by surfing on free porn. So they don't need to bye any!

I hope that's a good proof Man!!!

StuartD 02-01-2003 01:10 PM

If you think I'm helping you get the longest thread by replying... you're nuts!

So stop supporting those TGP sites that impose those rules. If you stop playing the game it forces change on their strategy.

Only people who act like lemmings and do what everyone does wonder why they aren't making money.

Drugs fund terrorists, you submitting your gallery to TGP's that enforce what you call stupid rules is funding their wallets.

How does free porn not convert good enough? If it wasn't converting, people wouldn't be making galleries and submitting everyday.

There would be no auto submitters to fill the NEED to optimize webmasters time. There would be no TGP's because there would be no submitters and no new galleries.

If it wasn't converting good enough nobody would do it.

Agreed, in theory it sounds like it would convert better. In reality this may not be true.

Has anyone really proved this to be true? No. If they did, everyone would be doing it.

Mister X 02-01-2003 03:22 PM

Obviously free porn is good for the industry. How else do you get someone into the mood to spend money without giving him a taste of what he wants? Everyone knows that the large majority of site memberships are spur of the moment purchases. The surfer gets horny looking at the free porn and decides he absolutely has to see more of it. I have some reservations about how hardcore the free shit should be though. When I build galleries I don't like to include spread shots and insertions, but when I do I get that gallery accepted in many times more sites and get more banner clicks. The one rule I have is never to show the pop shot. I think if you hold back at least that much then the average surfer doesn't have enough to get his jollies from 12 to 20 pics. Porn is no different than many other products on and off the net. People don't buy a car without kicking the tires and taking a testdrive. Anytime you go into a supermarket they're giving away free samples of food. Toothpaste and shampoo and laundry soap samples are delivered buy the mailman all the time. If you buy a new mattress it's an absolute must to lay down on it in the store. 9 out of 10 products you buy in Walmart are easily sampled in one way or another even if it's only visual sampling. Porn is a consumer driven marketplace and the consumers want free porn. And a lot of the first time consumers really have no idea what's inside a site unless they see some kind of samples. People don't like to buy a pig in a poke and it occasionally seems that the ones who yell the loadest about free porn hurting the industry are the ones who are selling a pig with a wooden leg.

Really, but what if they do drugs, who does that fund????:p

Of course they do, if you were a TGP owner wouldn't you want to make money?

Are you in this business to do favors for everyone in the industry to profit from your hardwork, time and bandwidth?

This is business, treat it like one.

This isn't proof of anything. This is your opinion. You are trying to look at both and can't even agree with yourself.

Better think this over better.

Dugmor's free content is here for one reason. To promote his site. If he didnt offer it, nobody would know whats inside his members area now would they?

Prove me wrong.

Very good point Mister X. In fact, SEX and the feeling of wanting it, are based on emotions.

Emotions cannot be controlled, they are natural. How you act on those emotions is up to the individual.

So the GOAL once you get a surfer on your page, is to kick start that emotion for them so they ACT, which will no doubt turn into them paying. The only way to kick start that emotion is by teasing them with some content, whether it be pictures in obscure sexy positions, or short video clips that spark that can spark that emotion in 10-15 seconds.

Free content is good for this industry, prove me wrong!

Personally I don't think it makes any difference to have pics on html. So there's a banner on the page with the pic... so what? I've never actually tried tracking it but I suspect that most surfers hit the back button to the gallery page to make sure there are no other pics to check out before they consider clicking that sponsor banner anyways. Having more banners in your face makes the average surfer irritated more than anything else would be my guess. He doesn't want to have to scroll his browser window to get to that pic below a banner and most of the time it's the same banner that's on the gallery page anyways. And if it isn't then it probably should be. I've never believed much in the scattershot theory of marketing so I tend to think having a gallery made up of actual content from a site converts best. And usually I'll put a banner on the bottom of the gallery that is related to but not actually competing with the main sponsor.

It funds the supplier doesn't it? Cause someone had to buy it.

So.. in this industry, a surfer looking at a picture or a free video, helped this industry because whoever is offering it to them had to pay the content provider.

Without content providers, there is nothing.

Free content is good for the industry, prove me wrong!!

Are you sure everyone pays their internet specifically to surf free porn, or are you running into a symantic debate because you want to push it in a certain direction, Darin. It's very obvious that people access the internet for more vaild reasons than just surfing porn.

For example I know that you enjoy the Pokemon site, and are frequently downloading Nsync songs, n' stuff. Now that has NOTHING to do with porn. Now are you paying for the porn or pokemon?

Anyway, what do you think???

Good point. If you are trying to sell Mountain Dew, you wouldn't put Pepsi cans in your advertisements would you?

Thats called targetting. Its real simple, yet most galleries you see have content from something that has nothing to do with the site.

Worse, the site doesnt target the surfer with the content that got their sexual emotions flowing in the first place. So its all pretty much wasted.

When someone says certain types of traffic dont convert, it just cracks me up when I see their galleries, paysite front pages, and members area. Nothing matches, and then they wonder and think that the traffic was bad. If its a real surfer that clicked to see what you have, its a real surfer who clicked to see what you have. Thats it. Simple.

Free content is good for this industry, how you use it directly reflects your revenue. Prove me wrong!

free porn is good it forces webmasters to do some work & increases creativity & diversity across the industry...

free porn is all about marketing, i've seen some of the best marketing ideas come from this industry which could be easily turned around & used in another business & vice versa...

I just did a gallery with my friend, he did the design i did the marketing text... 1st hour it was up 51 clicks 2 the sponsor....

i like free porn galleries cause they keep me on my toes & i'm very competative as all business minded people should be...
