Consumption Junction Sucks Ass

1 Attachment(s)
Here is the header of their February ad campaign that another nameless webmaster board spammed me with ....

Extremely bad taste ... I won't give them any business that is as certain as death and taxes !!

GOD 02-11-2003 06:01 AM

That's sacreligeous !!

:(

CumSensei 02-11-2003 06:03 AM

Hmm thats not so cool...

Remember when there where companies trying to make a few bucks scamming after the towers went down.

Mister X 02-11-2003 11:15 AM

Yeah I got that fucker in my email this morning. Whoever did that one is either dumber than a sack of politicians or just a big asshole with no fucking class. Probably both.

MarcfromCJ 02-11-2003 11:23 AM

Lighten up!

Come on people, lighten up! Have you ever been to CJ? We're all about "poor taste" humor. Didn't you guys ever read Mad Magazine when you were kids? We're equal-opportunity offenders. As for the whole "trying to make money off the tragedy" line, that's just ridiculous. It's not like we're selling "I went to Texas and all I got was this chunk of astronaut on my T-Shirt" shirts. We're selling traffic. That has nothing to do with the Columbia accident. The ad was designed to grab your attention and it obviously did that. If you can't take a joke, then we probably don't want to work with you. You don't have to respect us, but keep this in mind, we've got 6,500,000 people that think the same way we do, visit our site religiously, and buy porn. If you're judgemental nature and inablity to take a joke causes you to not want to business with us, fine. You're the ones missing out. There are plenty of others who can take the joke, buy the traffic, and get the joins.

MarcfromCJ 02-11-2003 12:02 PM

One of our associates on another board posted this:

"If there was no demand or market in the world for truly tasteless humor, then why was everyone telling those horrid "challenger" jokes back in the late 80's? People, virtually every disaster on Earth is joked about. There's a period of respectful morning... then BAM, out come the jokes, and people laugh. Disasters are what give us a sense of how short life is and brings us down to reality, Humor is the medicine that lifts us up."

So, with that in mind:

SHUTTLE JOKES

Q: Did you know that Christa McAuliffe was blue eyed?
A: One blew left and one blew right.

Q: What were Christa McAuliffe's last words?
A: "What's this button do?"

Q: What were Christa McAuliffe's last words to her husband?
A: "You feed the kids - I'll feed the fish."

Q: What was the Shuttle's last transmission?
A: "I said BUD LITE!"

Q: What does NASA stand for?
A1: Need Another Seven Astronauts
A2: Need Another Shuttle Also
A3: Chicken Kiev [Ed: Punchline to another joke.]

Q: Did you know why there was only one black crew member on Challenger?
A: They didn't know it was going to blow up.

Q: Did you know that NASA has a new space drink?
A: Ocean Spray - It was their second choice because they couldn't
get 7-UP.

Q: When the next shuttle launches into space, what will the senior
controller say?
A: "72, 73, 74 BOOM! - Just kidding guys!"

Q: What do Playtex tampon users and Christa McAuliffe have in common?
A: They both should have stayed on the pad.

Q: What does a sea lion, the space shuttle and Tylenol have in common?
A: They're all looking for a tight seal.

Q: How many people will fit in a Florida Volkswagen?
A: Four in the seats and seven in the ashtray.

Q: On future shuttle missions, why will one of the astronauts have to
be a naval officer?
A: So when they decide to use it as an experimental submarine, they'll
have a rated officer onboard.

Q: What do Christa McAuliffe and Donna Rice have in common.
A: They both went down on the challenger.

Q: Did you hear that they are sending up another teacher on the next
shuttle mission?
A: She's going to be a substitute.

BAD TASTE

But then again that's why I advertise there :D

B

Machinegunkelly 02-11-2003 02:28 PM

yeah thats totally disrespectfull ,
wonder if topbucks, etc know that their names are on this banner?

if so thats pretty sad .

ParasiteTV 02-11-2003 03:48 PM

Hilarious

I think that ad is funny, ParasiteTV subscribes to the same kind of humor...(we also read too much MAD as kids, hehe)
Don't get your panties in a bunch...

Nice one CJ!

:D

twinkley 02-11-2003 04:31 PM

Personally I find it distasteful. If their advertisers dont care, more power to them. I do. I didnt ask for this. I didnt opt in. I got spammed.

Yes, this IS the same type of humor as some of the stuff on CJ - which is why I choose not to watch it. I surely didnt choose to see this.

Thats my issue with it.

ParasiteTV 02-11-2003 05:13 PM

To Each Their Own

Everybody draws a line at a different point... Some people find anal distasteful, some people find BDSM disgusting... some love scat sports, some think it's repulsive.
Humor works in the same way.

Interesting story; one time at an art gallery there was a series of photos... ranging from a couple kissing to beastiality. There was a long peice of scrap paper under the series, and it said, "You Draw The Line."

Needless to say the paper had more lines than a pair of cords...

Just a thought.

Hey Hungryman... so you think that starting threads about them on a webmaster board is a good way to not "give them any business??" :bonk:

Mister X 02-11-2003 11:53 PM

I have no issue with fuckheads being able to make whatever kind of sick joke they want. What I do have an issue with is Platinum Bucks sending me this piece of shit tasteless crap spam. If I want to go to a site and laugh about dead babies and shit I will. I don't want it in my email. I've never been to Consumption Junction and I didn't sign up to any list there. I don't like spam and I lost a lot of respect for Platinum Bucks for sending me the piece of shit in question.

I can take a joke with the best of them. Even sick jokes. Hell I've been to Stile project and the rest of those sites. I've looked at pictures of Chris Farley lying dead on the floor of his motel room and I wasn't morally offended or anything of the sort. But none of them ever had the simple lack of decency or taste to send me something like that when I didn't ask for it. And I don't really give a shit how popular the site is or how much money it makes. There's too much of a tendency in this industry to say "I can do anything I want cuz I make a ton of green and you're just a pice of shit nobody" already. Up yours Consumption Junction.

That would be me.

I also posted this:

People can disect the theme of this particular banner til the end of time. Analyze it six ways to next winter.

Or accept it for what it's worth and move on.

Looks pretty obvious that it was intended to draw a parallel between the shock of their great ad deals and the shock of the shuttle tragedy, in that both have high shock value. One is tragic, the other will shock you by how much money you make.

It ain't rocket science. Be offended, don't be offended. Knowing what I know about CJ, it's all about humor, and the pursuit of the "truly tasteless"...... so I got past it. Can you?

And I'm sure that an email to anyone at CJ requesting that you be removed from their mailing list will be honored and dealt with promptly. Nothing to get all worked up over.

twinkley 02-13-2003 09:32 AM

It's not CJ's mailing list...

Danny_C 02-13-2003 10:49 AM

Not my kind of humor.

It must be somebody's mailing list. I'm on that list too, as I get regular email from CJ. My point is that I am sure that if anyone requests they get no more mails, then they will get no more mails. The end.

twinkley 02-13-2003 04:24 PM

Actually,

It's platinumbucks list. CJ just buys space on it. If your problem is with the spam, you need to talk to PB.

Does it say "What's your dysfunction?" on it?

I want one!

Twinkly -- I guess my point was that it really doesn't matter whose mailing list it is. If a request is made to be removed from it I'm quite sure that request would be honored. I said that because a few people have bitched about getting those emails. It's not "my" beef, it is theirs.

Thank you.

gregtx 02-14-2003 01:34 PM

all of our businesses thrive on not being censored... everyone is quick to point fingers... but if you don't like it... don't use it...

I found the ad very distasteful myslef.. but it is their right as a company to build ads they see fit to help their business.. and I do respect that...

chAos-mAtrix 02-14-2003 02:10 PM

OK i have read this crap on 3 other boards and I am suprised at the amount of morality that all of you "supposedly have" i mean fuck look at what we all do for a living - NEWSFLASH: The porn industry degredates and exploits women and teens.

This is not anything that is new jesus all of these people are so moralistic when someone makes a sick joke of something it is for shock value. I know because of this i might actually buy traffic from CJ now..

Most of you know me and know that i am very laid back and happy go lucky type of person but to persecute someone for making a distasteful ad campaign is lame as fuck. I laughed my ass off. Fuck call me sick i don't care shit they are dead and so are the hundreds of people that die everyday in america i do not see any boleding hearts for them. What just cause these people are astronauts they deserve all of this reverence. Fuck they flew in space they knew the risks and now they are dead..

It is a joke learn to lighten up and realize that we are not much different with our bukkake's, fishhooks, and exploitations. Has anyone here even thought about the girls that are shot that you make all this money off of and felt man i just fucked this girls whole life up .. NO i think not .. so get off this self richeous (spelt wrong) kick and just learn to laugh.
