"King Kong," directed by Peter Jackson, is one of the AFI's top 10 movies of 2005.

LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) -- Critics' darling "Brokeback Mountain," the upcoming effects extravaganza "King Kong" and the raucous comedy "The 40-Year-Old Virgin" are among the 10 films that the American Film Institute has judged as the most outstanding motion pictures of the year.

The official selections of AFI Awards 2005 for top films and TV programs were announced Sunday after two days of deliberations by two juries that selected the year's best in film and television.

The AFI will honor the creative ensembles behind each of the honorees January 13 at a luncheon at the Four Seasons in Los Angeles.

Apparently this new version of King Kong is getting the highest of reviews so far.

Predictions are that it will be bigger than "Titanic"...

Seska 12-12-2005 04:52 PM

Wow! That is pretty big indeed. I am looking forward to seeing it. We have our tickets already. James is a geeking out about it. He likes blockbusters.

crazybeautiful 12-12-2005 04:54 PM

it looks good but dont you think it's some kind of King Kong in Jurassic Park? :bonk:

war_ner 12-13-2005 06:46 AM

I've seen the trailer and it's just great; especially that scene on the enpire state building..

Seska 12-15-2005 12:08 PM

Saw it yesterday and loved it. Quite a few good scares and edge of your seat moments - especially if you have certain phobias. Naomi Watts was excellent. So was Adrian Brody. Jack Black a bit less so because when I see Jack Black I think of his other comedic roles which do not mesh with this one. And the gorilla is good too. ;-)

war_ner 12-16-2005 03:27 AM

I think I'm gonna watch it tonight.. :)

StaceyJo 12-16-2005 04:08 AM

yeah and think this will be a huge success...

I'm a huge king kong fan .. I remember when the the second one came out (not the Black and white one, I'm not that OLD!) ...
the story was awesome on this one and Jack Black blew me away with his preformance !

Sorry seska though I do agree with you on all other points, I think jack black proved himself as a versitle actor not just the dumb comedian he usually protrays.

I give a thumbs Up ...

war_ner 12-21-2005 03:28 AM

I thought 40 Yr Old Virgin was good but nowhere near a top 10 movie. Unless movies were really that bad this year.
