Tips from Montrealers for Cybernet

Alright Montreal people, let's give some suggestions on places to go to for anybody that comes in early. There's a bunch of us here so I'm sure we can find a few decent things, places to eat and all that.

Firstly, since you're at the Delta downtown. Everything is pretty much NORTH of where you are. Walk up the hill basically.

St-Catherine street is a long street where there's tons of shops if that's what you want to do. It is north of the hotel, about a 15min walk.

If you see "5 a 7" or "5@7", that's happy hour in french.

Old Montreal is just east of your hotel, the waterfront is just south. That's a nice little walk.

as for restaurants, go anywhere that looks nice to you and isn't a franchise. Bistros are normally great places to eat at.

The gay village has great restaurants to eat at.

Eat a Poutine!!! not only is it good for you but contains all essential food groups in one meal. For some reason they taste better at 4am after a night of cocktails.::-|

ahyes..i will get some poutine...but if you are coming into town make sure you get some real maple syrup on some waffles or pancakes one day for breakfast

Thanks Panky!

I've been lurking here occasionally for a while. I used to have an id here but I forgot what it was and I figured it was better to use the same name on all the boards.

Learn these words... poutine Italienne avec extra fromage :p

Also... EVERYPLACE in Montreal delivers (almost). That goes for the depanneurs too. If you run out of smokes or beer and don't feel like going out to get them they'll bring them right to your door. :D

And welcome (or welcome back) aboard the X NR!

This has nothing to do with places to go or things to do but...

SAVE ALL YOUR RECEIPTS!

If you are a visitor to Canada, you can get reimbursed for a portion of the GST (Goods and Service tax) and HST (Harmonized Sales Tax).

Here is the official website that will tell you what qualifies and the procedure for reimbursement.

There also some places that will deliver beer after 3:00 a.m. ........ that is is you know where to call.

One thing is I suggest......... If you plan on going to any night clubs make sure you dress very well.

Urgh, I don't like poutine italienne. Nothing beats a good old classic poutine!

Yes true. If you plan on going out, avoid running shoes, jeans (unless they're high-end Diesel style) and no hats.

St-Laurent Blvd just north of Sherbrooke is a great place for a trendy atmosphere.

Le Quartier Latin is a neighborhood that is known for having a great time. Mainly bars and pubs. Every cab driver will know that area.

Horg 06-04-2003 12:28 PM

Hehe
But you have the best of both world in Québec. A big mac AND a poutine in the same trio! Of course it's not the best poutine in town, but it's eatable.

montreal is know for the three basic food groups ..

1)Smoke meat (the best place is Schwartz on St laurent st, north West of the hotel ...

2) Souvalki - the best in my humble opinion is Marven's in Park X (greek town) at 8080 Ball Avenue corner of Wiseman

3) Pizza - Montreal pizza taste very different then any other city pizza .. kinda like Philly pizza but with a thicker crust

Wash it down with a tall glass of OJ (Orange Julep) Look for the big huge orange at the corner of Decarie and Pare ... A montreal Original !

The cool thing is that you can combine 1 and 3 and get a pizza with smoked meat. :p

The pizza in Montreal is certainly unique. However, the proclivity
of Montrealers for putting toppings (like pepperoni) under the cheese is something I cannot understand.
