Ah...even as I typed that, I waited for the "before/after" discussion to begin!
Americans, being the uncultured beasties that we are, have it before the meal.
Also, if the point of having a salad is to fill you up with the "healthy stuff" and prevent over-eating on everything else, it should come before.
