Honestly, if you can stick to some kind of calorie-burning exercise, it could help.
I hear a lot of good things about horseback riding, swimming, hiking, and skiing. These things might be more fun that simply running.
Let's say you don't have a horse, snow, or a pool or other body of water. Then you might want to try walking and later graduate to jogging.
