I could care less about post count, points, tokens, or any of that other gimmicky crap. I don't post on boards because I can earn prizes, toys, whatever... I simply post because I enjoy posting.

For example...
It's not enough for some people that they can receive an XNations shirt for reaching 100 posts. XNations doesn't even really make any special rules that each post has to contain an (x) amount of characters and / or the post has to be relevant.

XNations holds contests for members. XNations enables the sig option, custom html page, links in profiles... It's not enough.

People want more. They want an XBox. They want CD players, DVD players, jackets... They want, want, and want. In reality, they don't do a damn thing to earn them.

Do people really think the freeloaders care about the board they are posting on? Hell no. If a board stops supplying all the toys, the people who post to win things, will go find some other board to mooch off of.

From a business standpoint, it makes perfectly good sense to implement these things. Post count increases. Member base increases. Page views increase. Board recognition increases. The more these elements increase, the higher the fee for advertisers.

At what price is the board willing to pay?

I just personally feel that if XNations is doing what everyone else is, you will lose the base membership and your board will be overrun by moochers. XNations will lose the charm and credibility it displays now.

I know it's not an easy decision. Probably one that was debated since the launch of XNations. There's a happy median somewhere. I'd actually be all for implementing new things such as tokens, points, whatever, if there was a way to control it, so the board does not become abused. But without the control, the board would run wild.

This post was not directed to anyone or any board in particular. It is simply my own personal view / rant.
