He was diagnosed in 1991. But Parkinsons may be like a lot of other conditions, diabetes is a good example, where it takes a while to be diagnosed. The symptoms don't display themselves right away.

That's a "no answer" kind of answer, and I apologize for that, but it's the only one I've got.

I've packed his autobiography for moving, but I'll read it again as soon as we've moved. I liked it. He was brutally honest about himself and I appreciated that.

He also did something that I thought was awe inspiring. He was interviewed on the "Today" show during the biggest discussions of stem cell research *before* he'd taken his daily meds. He gave the entire world a stark look at what Parkinsons does to a person. It was agonizing to watch but it made my admiration of him soar.
