We have always done better with the winter sports (go figure) but 0 medals is a bit of a shocker in the summer Olympics, since we used to do so well with Track, rowing, cycling etc.
True, they don't pour a lot of money toward our athletes and training and they incur a lot of debt to get where they are. I don't want to sound like a stick in the mud but Gov money can be better used elsewhere than bragging rights every 4 years.

They are expected to win a medal in softball. They were beating team USA going into the 6th inning this morning. Canada had a couple errors that helped us score...after that we blew it open and won 8-1 if I remember correctly.

13 medals now. I've skimmed over the list of upcoming events that we have athletes competing in, and I'm confident that medal count will rise.
We're already ahead of how we did in Athens 4 years ago. (we only got 12 there)

Funny the US is all about the Olympics, veryone I know asks if I am watching I am like watching what?? They say the Olympics and I reply, no why?
Is it like part of this whle patriot thing? Like Football and Nascar?

I just knew our sucking would only last the first week.

It was cool to watch some Canadian Olympic coverage while in Montreal. Saw van Koeverden get edged out for the Gold in the 500 - what a well-spoken ambassador for Canada  - quite candid about his Olympic experience - hope to see triathlon in some replays... |
