You don't know if they are telling the truth or not. So in your case if you ask is this the way to heaven, the truth teller would say yes and the liar would say no if it were in fact the road to heaven. And, the truth teller would say no if it were the road to hell and the liar would say yes if it were in fact the road to hell. It's easy... you ask what the other would say what is the way to heaven and then take the other way!
1. Asking the truth teller:
--> The truth teller knows that the other one would lie and tell you to take the way to hell. Use the other way and you end up in heaven!
2. Asking the liar:
--> If you ask the liar what the truth teller would tell he will also tell you the way to hell. So take again the other path and you're all set...
===> Of course, you can also ask them what way leads to hell. Hell sounds somehow more entertaining the heaven, just make sure you know where you wanna go!
