That's funny.

I used to think a lot aobut the one on the writers of software manuals not using simple english. I never really understood the documentation process until I was on a contract where we had a professional technical writer.

These guys come in and interview the programmers on the parts of the system, how they are connected with the other parts of the system, their features, and general use. They usually record the interview audio, then they disappear for a few weeks. Then you get a full manual where all they did was transcribe and format, maybe moving sections here and there.

The incomprehensible passages in the most crucial area of the manual are directly from the mouths of the programmers, who work daily with a full understanding of the inner workings of the system, and that's why they don't make any sense to the end-users.
