Default To start or not.... a new TGP?

How worthwhile would it be to start a new TGP?

I have one on the back-burner. Design is in, scripts are in. Just needs to be fed some content, traffic, and trades.

Worth the effort?

why not?

Every type of site you build (if you build it in a smart way and work on it) should generate some revenue..

So unless you totally suck on it ;-) I say go for it!

I would simply say if you're that far ahead on it then sure I'd absolutely go ahead and get it up, even tough traffic is traffic.

If you were starting from ground zero, my answer might be different

Maybe not dead but the amount of traffic you have to throw at it is becoming simply ridiculous

You never know what site could take off and be the next thehun, so I say go for it....try to add your own flair to it and see how it does.

Why not? You already have the backbone in place. Plus, it isn't like you don't know what you are doing or have contacts and resources where you could get some decent traffic flowing and trades started.

Thanks. I call it effort from this point on because this is really where the work starts for me. Up until now, I've paid a few people to get it where it needed to be, apart from installing the script itself (TGPX by the way).

I'm thinking about handing it to someone to run for me and split any revenues. Could this work?

I think TGP is dead. I've been looking into TGP2 recently and obviously it converts way better than TGP. The main thing with it is getting search engine traffic and only showing 5 thumbs so you really tease the surfer.

By the same token I thought TGP was dead about a year ago too but it seemed to jump back a little bit 5 months after I thought that and I was making some sales again.

I pretty convinced though that in good economic times TGP was pretty thin profit-wise but in this new tougher economy forget it. As long as there's so much for free who wants to buy it. People want to use their little extra spending money on booze instead. If they couldn't get all the porn they want free then yeah they would buy that too but... yada yada as the free porn story goes :|

I'd love to hear some comments about linklists and if they still do well. They always had better SE traffic than TGP's did.

I started this thread on GFY as well, and I got answers that I expected.

What I think is this.... Starting a new TGP isn't a waste of time, and they can still be profitable. But you have to also measure what your time is worth to you now versus 10 years ago.

I have a few TGPs now and the ones I put effort into do make money. I know they could all be making more. But it's the time needed to maintain them.

When someone outright dismisses creating a TGP as a "waste of time" or "TGP is dead"... I simply don't agree. Any porn site you create will make you money if you know how to attract the traffic, and perhaps more importantly excite that surfer's senses for more and convince them to make a purchase.

Shemp you're well respected enough that I'm not going to argue with you.

I can see too how your perspective is going to be much different as a long time tgp owner who has been making money from it for a long time.

My perspective though is I had a tgp that never made much money at all only to get to the point of making no money at all in recent times.

Also I'm a TGP gallery submitter who used to make loads of money and has seen tgp ratios get bigger and bigger as time goes on. Dec 2008 was my first month ever of making 0 sales from TGP traffic.

So I'm only one person yes but I have seen many others saying the same things.

Chris I know you a lot better than Shemp so I'll argue with you! lol joke.

Maybe I shouldn't have said tgp is "dead". Obviously it's not dead because tgp's are still out there and tgp still makes some money.

But TGP is most certainly dying and it will die some day. When? Who knows.
It's really hard to jump out of a comfort zone and accept a new business trend. Horse and buggy manufacturers refused to accept that the car industry would evolve too.

Erotic magazine publishers in the 80's either embraced the internet or refused(or were unable) to embrace it. A few of millionaires were made from internet porn while even the once mighty playboy had hindering sales and a few smaller magazines went belly up.

You can make a TGP sure but it's like you say how much time do you want to put into it? I guess if you have it already to go and have money in it already then go for it. But why not make it a different kind of site if you can?

Just my opinion.

sorry, for the abrupt comment last nite...however every time i hear how good TGP2 was, i wanna throw up...it was started by a bunch of losers on gfy that coiuldnt make a dime with regular tgps...the original group was led by wolfshade, a well known dialer cheater and crook that resurfaced a few years ago on Netpond under a different user name and bilked a bunch more people out of their hard earned cash...

TGP2 never took off because it never had any traffic and it never made the users and real money...all the time the TGP2 group were voraciously pushing the wonderful concept of TGP2 to the masses, they were still submitting regular TGP galleries to the big TGP sites (the very sites that they wanted to put out of business) and sneaking recip links back to their crappy TGP2 sites...

Only the surfer decides what will work on the internet...you cant force a fad or make a surfer like a concept...the surfer will make or break you and the surfers broke the TGP2 concept because it sucked bigtime, from the surfers point of view...

I would start a Hybrid TGP/MGP/Blog/Tube as well, some good scripts out there and most of the better sponsors have the FLV link dumps to populate the tube aspect of it.

TGP is not dead by any stretch, and I could not agree more, Webmasters could never train a surfer to want to like something that offered less like TGP2. Even when it was all the talk, MGP had'nt fully been embraced and it still failed.

Shemp no need to say sorry. I always enjoy reading your abrupt comments.
This is the first time one was directed at me though. lol All is good.

By the time I got into the biz TGP2 had already died. So I definitely love hearing the history from guys like you who were there from the start.

I used to scoff at TGP2 as well but I guess I'm just looking for something new out of frustration with TGP and the ever raising ratios I'm seeing. When I declared that TGP was dead there was indeed a lot of frustration behind that statement.

I've been looking into this new movement of TGP2 and what I'm reading is that they have SE traffic and they convert with much lower ratios than TGP. Even with that I'm still looking at it with a critical eye. I even posted in a thread somewhere else that yeah TGP2 could work as long as the surfer doesn't already know about TGP and freesites.

I know anasporn was talking about them at least a year ago and I didn't listen to her but she's still doing them after a year so it may worth a look.

I second Panky, I'd love to hear you on Anas show and possibly get some deeper history lessons about this biz we're in.

I know there is an ebb and flow to TGP sales so I appreciate your wise words, maybe I'll take a long critical look at how I'm doing my TGP galleries. I still can't help thinking though that TGP is dying because theres no way it is as good as it used to be.

That would probably be more like the late 90's early 2000's. I dont recall any advanced internet selling porn in the 80's.

Beyond that. I am building 3 new TGPs right now and have a couple of people who do submissions for me. I believe it is about watching and knowing the market, putting in the time and building it.

Yeah I should have clarified better what I meant there but in my head I was thinking about the magazines that existed in the 80's that I used to look at that didn't exist later on after the internet.

even if money *can* be made, there's the question of how much effort vs how much return.... I'm hoping to see some new formats and new ideas soon. it is definitely rediculous how much traffic you have to throw at a "good TGP" to see return.
