Remember when...

You could register domains with internic, and not have to pay for them for the first three months?

YNOT was the only webmaster board around?

You accessed the information superhighway with a SLIP connection on a 14.4 modem?

LOL @ Bob!

People were addicted to BBS and newsgroups.

Commodore 64's were popular.

I had no CC so i was obliged to send a money order...

yes but then I also remember surfing and BBS with a 1200 modem and being one of the faster ones.

The other day I was talking to some friends about the days when I knew every BBW site (porn and otherwise) on the web because there really weren't that many. Considering the BBW community was one of the first to take advantage of the web (and the 'net..there were a bunch of BBW BBS's) that must mean I have been on the web WAY too long.

Hi Chris,

I remember the 14k modem, I had to phone to connent to someones pc.

Then in 94 I was connecting with a 28k modem for AUD$4 per HR. But first was more interested in polar bears and started gocities websites for fun and interest. Did many other sort of sites eg; tropical fish, black bears and even a site on the planets and space.. Warez sites, music and movie sites. All before 96-97 I think before I became interested in porn online.

Always have been interested in how the interest works and I don't know what I would be doing today if there wasnt such a network.

I still get a rush turning on the pc each day.
I am and have been hooked on this information super highway for years and find great pleasure in reading new things.

Have a great day!

Reminds me of the fated christmas morning that I completed programming a spankin' fresh platform game in BASIC, then opened gifts from the family to find IT:

The Hayes 2400 baud modem.

Damn. I was big shit on the block with that bad boy. Hitting the BBS's (which, oddly enough, my favorite was run from an apartment by a guy who would many years later become a manager of mine) and playing "door" games, downloading the max daily KB, waiting until midnight to get the rest of the file.

The kids in the neighborhood just didn't get the need for speed. Their argument was, "why would you need to connect to anyone else at a higher speed? Nobody can type at more than 300 baud."

Then Archie was available by dialing up to the local University.

>sigh<

How about arguments about which bbs was better because it ran either Clarke's PCBoard, WWIV, Spitfire or some other's I just can't remember.

TradeWars?

1200 baud, the phone bill (eek).

Can't say that I do, not that old - I only remember my dear 28.8 modem which I actually still use. At winter time when it gets cold, I plugin the modem and use it to have my feet on! It gets pretty hot when its been on for a while.

I can't believe the amount of time I wasted on our local BBS here in Montreal. I think they had around 40 lines to it. But I met a lot of good friends that I still see to this day.

Ha! I found a sheet of paper with about 20 BBS numbers the other day and was laughing so hard at that!

40 lines... there were only a couple of large ones... Hmmm which could it be....

I used to run Cheap Thrills BBS on a 286, a 10MB hard drive and a 14.4 modem. or was it a 2400?

I remember renegade being better than Telegard BBS.

I remember paying $150 for the first domain I ever registered.

I remember watching TV shows that had cards for heroes cause they can save the world, not humans.
